Just The Girl – Chapter Fifty Four (a HYD-inspired fic)

Tina shook her head from side to side, setting Bette’s soul at ease. You didn’t do anything wrong.. but I think I did.

    “You sure?”

    “Mm-hmm.”

    “Then why are you crying?”

“I’m just..” Tina bit her lip. She owed Bette the truth. “..really scared.”

    “Of me?”

    “For us.”

Bette was silent as she struggled to process Tina’s words. Damn those four glasses of red wine for making her brain function slower.

“We.. can do this right?” Tina spoke up after a few moments, gathering enough courage to press further.

    “Do what?”

“This long distance thing. We can do it?”

Bette sighed as everything clicked into place. “We have to.”

“For four years?” Tina asked, her voice as tiny as she was feeling tonight.

Bette stared at the wall behind Tina as her lips twisted into a frown. Try as she might, she found herself unable to give Tina some much needed reassurance. She would see right through her and know the truth.

    “Porter?”

“We have to.” She said again.

“Is that your answer to everything?”

Bette pulled back and met Tina’s watery gaze. Though she tried to help it, she couldn’t keep out the venom that dripped from her voice. “This is what you wanted, right? You asked for this.”

The blonde was caught off guard by the bitterness in her tone. Tina stared at Bette for a second before her face crumpled.

Bette looked stricken as tears flowed at an ever greater rate on Tina’s face. Though she would never admit, she hated seeing someone she cared for crying – tears had always been her weakness. But with Tina, it was another story all together. It pained her to see her get hurt. And seeing that she was the one who had caused it, drove another stake into her heart.

“Shit, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean that. I’m so sorry..” She held on to the blonde and pulled her closer to her body. Every tear that soaked her shirt, every sniffle and every whimper increased the guilt she felt. “I’m so sorry..” She repeated over and over again, in a tone that was both pleading and desperate.

    2. There is so much that could happen, and you say the End is next…will they remain together or fall apart? I can finally read now that the tears have cleared, thanks for the post!!

    3. god how i love this story, every chapter is like a mini book! i’m not right stoked to read that the next will be the last though, i absolutely love how you write these two…especially bette! my only hope is that you keep them together and that you promise to carry on writing other stories…well????!

    4. What was Tina going to say to Bette on the beach? Will Tina be able to forgive Bette for not saying goodbye? Will Tina catch the next available flight out to Connecticut? I hope so… I can’t wait to see how you wrap everything up, but I’m really going to miss this story. Thanks for the chapter.

    5. This has/is an incredible story. I look for it daily and was so glad to see a post today. Please say it isn’t so, Your not ending it are you? Their still young and have slots to go through. A sequel maybe?.

    6. WOW!!!!! I just got a chance to read all 37 pages of it-it was a long one…but well worth it. I can understand why Bette went ahead & left-but Tina will be hurt…but I think she will understand. I hope they can work through this & I can’t wait for the next update. Great job.

    7. *Sniffle* Oh dear, this has got to be the saddest JTG chapter. *Sniffle* So begging on my knees didn’t work. *Sniffle* I don’t know how they’ll ever get to eternity when it’s hard to say they’ll even get to survive the next 24 hours, weeks or months apart. *Sniffle* I hope Tina will still change her mind but if not…then, *Thank you very much* for this lovely, funny, sometimes sexy high school TiBette tale. It’s been a great ride, Alchemy! *Crysmiles like Bette* Okay… I’m gonna go to a corner now and cry my heart out. Boohoo. :(

    8. Hey Alchemy! So glad to have you back with another chapter, but extremely sad that the end is coming. I have loved this story from the beginning as your writing is incredible. I have the feeling Tina had decided to go with Bette, but will maybe stick to their plan now that Bette has left. Bette’s letter had me teary-eyed which is one of the best things about your writing… one minute I’m laughing out loud, the next I’m choked up. Thanks for the post.
