Just The Girl – Chapter Fifty Four (a HYD-inspired fic)
It was beautiful. There was no better word to describe it. Hawaii, she smiled as realization hit. The jewelry store.
She grasped the letter next, excited to see what her romantic and terribly generous girlfriend had written for her.
Clutching the necklace in one hand, she proceeded to read the note. The huge smile that was plastered on her face dwindled down into a frown. All of a sudden, she felt the floor disappearing beneath her. A cold chill went up her spine and made her shiver. She read and re-read the letter, but only one thing stuck:
I’ve left for Yale.
———————————-
My Dearest Tina,
I know we agreed to go to the beach this morning and I know you’re probably going to kill me for this but..
I’ve left for Yale.
Breathe, Kennard. And please, don’t get too angry with me. While reading this, you’re probably cursing me for leaving you all alone in the apartment. I’m really sorry. It’s the last thing that I wanted to do but I had to do it. You know me, I suck at goodbyes and if I were to see your face before I board the plane, I’m afraid I’d lose my resolve and go back on the promise I made to you. And lets be honest, if that happened, you’d end up hating me. I’m sorry for not telling you that we were scheduled to leave today. Band-aid mentality, love. Ripping it off at once won’t prolong the pain and agony, right? It’s one quick pull and then it’s over. Or so they say.
I hope you like my little gift. They say the heart is at the center of one’s existence – as you are in mine. And to give your heart away is considered as giving your entire being to the person you love. The past few months have been the greatest in my life. And you have not only built yourself a place in my heart – you have come to own it. So, as we go make something out of our lives from opposite sides of the country, I feel that it is only fitting that I leave you my heart – or a small symbol of it. It is, and will always be, yours. Do as you please with it. But please, no wisecracks on how tiny and cold it is. I get that enough from Alice.
The necklace is called Eternity, and supposedly, the person who wears this pendant is destined to a happy and fulfilling life with their true love. So take care of it and keep it close to your chest, ‘kay? Our future depends on it.
Like it or not, you’re stuck with me.
I am yours, from this life to the next,
Bette
P.S. I’ll call you as soon as my plane lands in New Haven. I know I deserve a good snubbing, but please, pick up the phone okay? You can shout at me all you want, it’s fine. I just want to hear your voice..
tbc..
Next: The End.

There is so much that could happen, and you say the End is next…will they remain together or fall apart? I can finally read now that the tears have cleared, thanks for the post!!
god how i love this story, every chapter is like a mini book! i’m not right stoked to read that the next will be the last though, i absolutely love how you write these two…especially bette! my only hope is that you keep them together and that you promise to carry on writing other stories…well????!
What was Tina going to say to Bette on the beach? Will Tina be able to forgive Bette for not saying goodbye? Will Tina catch the next available flight out to Connecticut? I hope so… I can’t wait to see how you wrap everything up, but I’m really going to miss this story. Thanks for the chapter.
Wow that was an amazing chapter! and so many looming questions. PPS
Wow-your story never ceases to amaze me. I love it and your writing, and I hope to see both soon in a sequel to this story! PPS!
This has/is an incredible story. I look for it daily and was so glad to see a post today. Please say it isn’t so, Your not ending it are you? Their still young and have slots to go through. A sequel maybe?.
Its coming to an end, does it have to? I love this chapter for all the right reasons. Please dont keep to long for the next one. Thanks
WOW!!! That was Amazing!!! I just hope that the end will be just as good. Thank you PPS
WOW!!!!! I just got a chance to read all 37 pages of it-it was a long one…but well worth it. I can understand why Bette went ahead & left-but Tina will be hurt…but I think she will understand. I hope they can work through this & I can’t wait for the next update. Great job.
*Sniffle* Oh dear, this has got to be the saddest JTG chapter. *Sniffle* So begging on my knees didn’t work. *Sniffle* I don’t know how they’ll ever get to eternity when it’s hard to say they’ll even get to survive the next 24 hours, weeks or months apart. *Sniffle* I hope Tina will still change her mind but if not…then, *Thank you very much* for this lovely, funny, sometimes sexy high school TiBette tale. It’s been a great ride, Alchemy! *Crysmiles like Bette* Okay… I’m gonna go to a corner now and cry my heart out. Boohoo. :(
This is sad !
That ws beautiful and sad, it brought tears to my eyes.
I laughed and cried ….. It just broke my heart :( But there has to be a happy ending in here some where :)
Great chptr, Al will there be a sequl to this story maybe College life ???
Hey Alchemy! So glad to have you back with another chapter, but extremely sad that the end is coming. I have loved this story from the beginning as your writing is incredible. I have the feeling Tina had decided to go with Bette, but will maybe stick to their plan now that Bette has left. Bette’s letter had me teary-eyed which is one of the best things about your writing… one minute I’m laughing out loud, the next I’m choked up. Thanks for the post.
Sniff sniff. This was hard, I laughed and cried very hard. How come? Tina go get you future wife please?
