Just The Girl – Chapter Fifty Four (a HYD-inspired fic)

Tina wanted to tell her to stop apologizing, but the continuous outflow of tears prevented her from doing so. Bette shouldn’t apologize for telling the truth – no matter how hurtful it was. And she was right, she wanted this didn’t she? She asked for it – twisted Bette’s arm and demanded it even. In the end, even with all of her options, she chose to go to USC. And now that she got Bette to agree to study in Yale, she would have to live with her decision.

But the question still remained.. can she?

    ——————————–

The next few days were a blur. They had patched things up quickly, but after that night, Bette felt Tina withdrawing to herself – hiding the vulnerability that she had seen under a mask of smiles. She was back to her old self, the weed, the strong one. She was hurting, conflicted – Bette knew this to be true. But Tina hid her emotions well. On her part, she tried her absolute best to behave. To not do anything that might make her cry again. To keep her true opinions to herself. And so far, she was successful. They avoided confrontation as much as possible – knowing that their days of living together were about to come to an end. And no one dared to mess the dynamics up by bringing drama into the fray. But the feelings were there – bubbling beneath the surface, ready to spill over with the slightest provocation.

In truth, Bette was bitter – Tina was torn. And though they knew they could never fool the other, they kept up with their respective charades. Afraid to push, afraid to pull. Scared to death that their young relationship would break apart if they did so.

    “Have you told her?”

A body casually slumped down on the living room’s sectional sofa, rumpling the small pillows that were neatly adorning the furniture.

“Nope.” Bette shook her head from side to side as she swirled the remnants of her cocktail inside the glass. She stared at the twirling liquid – finding comfort in the sight that it resembled her thoughts – muddled and spinning out of control.

    3. god how i love this story, every chapter is like a mini book! i’m not right stoked to read that the next will be the last though, i absolutely love how you write these two…especially bette! my only hope is that you keep them together and that you promise to carry on writing other stories…well????!

    4. What was Tina going to say to Bette on the beach? Will Tina be able to forgive Bette for not saying goodbye? Will Tina catch the next available flight out to Connecticut? I hope so… I can’t wait to see how you wrap everything up, but I’m really going to miss this story. Thanks for the chapter.

    5. This has/is an incredible story. I look for it daily and was so glad to see a post today. Please say it isn’t so, Your not ending it are you? Their still young and have slots to go through. A sequel maybe?.

    6. WOW!!!!! I just got a chance to read all 37 pages of it-it was a long one…but well worth it. I can understand why Bette went ahead & left-but Tina will be hurt…but I think she will understand. I hope they can work through this & I can’t wait for the next update. Great job.

    7. *Sniffle* Oh dear, this has got to be the saddest JTG chapter. *Sniffle* So begging on my knees didn’t work. *Sniffle* I don’t know how they’ll ever get to eternity when it’s hard to say they’ll even get to survive the next 24 hours, weeks or months apart. *Sniffle* I hope Tina will still change her mind but if not…then, *Thank you very much* for this lovely, funny, sometimes sexy high school TiBette tale. It’s been a great ride, Alchemy! *Crysmiles like Bette* Okay… I’m gonna go to a corner now and cry my heart out. Boohoo. :(

    8. Hey Alchemy! So glad to have you back with another chapter, but extremely sad that the end is coming. I have loved this story from the beginning as your writing is incredible. I have the feeling Tina had decided to go with Bette, but will maybe stick to their plan now that Bette has left. Bette’s letter had me teary-eyed which is one of the best things about your writing… one minute I’m laughing out loud, the next I’m choked up. Thanks for the post.
