Just The Girl – Chapter Fifty Four (a HYD-inspired fic)

CHAPTER FIFTY FOUR: A Little Thing Called Eternity

    Los Angeles. Present time.

I had all but given up on finding the one that I could fall into

    On the day before you

I was ready to settle for less than love and not much more

There was no such thing as a dream come true

Oh, but that was on the day before you

In your eyes I see forever and it makes me wish that my life never knew

    The day before you

Oh, but heaven knows those years without you

Were shaping my heart for the day that I found you

And if you’re the reason for all I’ve been through

Then I’m thankful for the day before you

Now you’re here and everything’s changing

    Suddenly life means so much

    I can’t wait

    To wake up tomorrow

And find out this promise is true

I will never have to go back to..

    The day before you

I couldn’t help but notice the irony when I pass by apartment 229 and hear those words being sung on the radio. I found myself standing outside the door, listening until the melody began to fade out and was replaced by the morning jockey’s smooth voice. I still hear the song in my head as if it was on loop, its lyrics coaxing a smile on my face. How fitting for what I was feeling right now. It beautifully summed up my life after Tina Kennard.

I have often wondered how my life would’ve turned out if I hadn’t dragged my lazy friends to school early on that fateful day. If I hadn’t felt overly protective of Alice to let her silly run in with the freshman go. If we hadn’t made a pit stop and accompanied Shane to the third floor coffee cart to get her daily caffeine fix before pinning the red tag. If I hadn’t been a hapless victim of Dana Fairbanks’ faulty coffee lid. And if I hadn’t met an audacious woman by the name of Christina Kennard.

If those things didn’t happen, I wouldn’t be here.

I would probably be standing outside the estate, looking up at the mansion and saying adieu to Sonja and my cars. Wishing them farewell as the limo whisked me away to the airport where my jet was waiting for me. I would meet my friends there, and together, we would fly to our future. To Yale. Where college drama and nights of debauchery and fun waited for us. We would probably have the time of our lives. Four years later, I would’ve graduated at the top of my class. My mom, God bless her soul, would’ve been proud. And as I bid academia goodbye, I would be saying hello to my new job as the head of the PGC – as was my destiny. I would live the life of a jet setter – like my father before me – and travel around the world, closing business deals with one hand and running my empire with the other.

    1. wow that was a loooonnnnggg but fantastic chapter.how harsh is Bette just leaving for Yale like that!!!anyway,it will be a sad day when this story ends but yet i can’t wait til the end to find out what happens.PPS cheers

    2. There is so much that could happen, and you say the End is next…will they remain together or fall apart? I can finally read now that the tears have cleared, thanks for the post!!

    3. god how i love this story, every chapter is like a mini book! i’m not right stoked to read that the next will be the last though, i absolutely love how you write these two…especially bette! my only hope is that you keep them together and that you promise to carry on writing other stories…well????!

    4. What was Tina going to say to Bette on the beach? Will Tina be able to forgive Bette for not saying goodbye? Will Tina catch the next available flight out to Connecticut? I hope so… I can’t wait to see how you wrap everything up, but I’m really going to miss this story. Thanks for the chapter.

    5. This has/is an incredible story. I look for it daily and was so glad to see a post today. Please say it isn’t so, Your not ending it are you? Their still young and have slots to go through. A sequel maybe?.

    6. WOW!!!!! I just got a chance to read all 37 pages of it-it was a long one…but well worth it. I can understand why Bette went ahead & left-but Tina will be hurt…but I think she will understand. I hope they can work through this & I can’t wait for the next update. Great job.

    7. *Sniffle* Oh dear, this has got to be the saddest JTG chapter. *Sniffle* So begging on my knees didn’t work. *Sniffle* I don’t know how they’ll ever get to eternity when it’s hard to say they’ll even get to survive the next 24 hours, weeks or months apart. *Sniffle* I hope Tina will still change her mind but if not…then, *Thank you very much* for this lovely, funny, sometimes sexy high school TiBette tale. It’s been a great ride, Alchemy! *Crysmiles like Bette* Okay… I’m gonna go to a corner now and cry my heart out. Boohoo. :(

    8. Hey Alchemy! So glad to have you back with another chapter, but extremely sad that the end is coming. I have loved this story from the beginning as your writing is incredible. I have the feeling Tina had decided to go with Bette, but will maybe stick to their plan now that Bette has left. Bette’s letter had me teary-eyed which is one of the best things about your writing… one minute I’m laughing out loud, the next I’m choked up. Thanks for the post.
