Just The Girl – Chapter Fifty Four (a HYD-inspired fic)
—-
Thirty minutes and a couple more stores later, they were back on the streets with the other tourists. Both girls were hungry from all the shopping. Following a kind store owner’s advice, they walked in the direction of a popular deli in the neighborhood.
“Shit.” Bette cursed and stopped in her tracks.
“What?”
“I think I left my cellphone at the souvenir shop.” She lied, knowing that she had stuffed it inside her handbag. She crossed her fingers, willing her mobile won’t sound off and blow her cover. “Go on ahead to the restaurant, I’ll meet you there.” She gave the blonde a quick peck on the lips before she darted off in the opposite direction. Rounding a corner, she stopped and pressed her back against the stone wall. Discreetly, she peered back at the main street and let out the breath she was holding in. Tina had entered the deli, harboring no suspicions about her weird behavior.
Great going Porter, she congratulated herself as she resumed her run. She was in front of the souvenir shop in no time. But instead of going in like she had initially told the blonde, she walked past the store and stood by the shop adjacent it.
She peered inside the display window and smiled. It was still there. She tapped the glass and waved at the attendant inside. She pointed at the item enclosed in the central display case and flashed her credit card, showing her intent. The man smiled in understanding as he ushered her in.
Eternity.
She smiled at the word on the window. And it was going to be hers.

Los Angeles, Present Time.
“Porter?”
“Bette?”
“Bette!”
“What?” I rub my left ear – the one unfortunate enough to have Alice screaming right into a few seconds ago.
“Stop playing with your flower. We’re here.”
Her words jarred me back to reality. I looked out the window and saw that she was right. Without me noticing, we had arrived at our destination. I guess time flies by so fast when you have a lot on your mind. I stuff the Kaunaoa flower key chain inside my pocket – in a way stuffing back the memories of our trip to the back of my mind. I’ll revisit them later – I’m sure of that. But not now. If I’m gonna do this, I can’t afford to think of her.

There is so much that could happen, and you say the End is next…will they remain together or fall apart? I can finally read now that the tears have cleared, thanks for the post!!
god how i love this story, every chapter is like a mini book! i’m not right stoked to read that the next will be the last though, i absolutely love how you write these two…especially bette! my only hope is that you keep them together and that you promise to carry on writing other stories…well????!
What was Tina going to say to Bette on the beach? Will Tina be able to forgive Bette for not saying goodbye? Will Tina catch the next available flight out to Connecticut? I hope so… I can’t wait to see how you wrap everything up, but I’m really going to miss this story. Thanks for the chapter.
Wow that was an amazing chapter! and so many looming questions. PPS
Wow-your story never ceases to amaze me. I love it and your writing, and I hope to see both soon in a sequel to this story! PPS!

WOW!!!!! I just got a chance to read all 37 pages of it-it was a long one…but well worth it. I can understand why Bette went ahead & left-but Tina will be hurt…but I think she will understand. I hope they can work through this & I can’t wait for the next update. Great job.
*Sniffle* Oh dear, this has got to be the saddest JTG chapter. *Sniffle* So begging on my knees didn’t work. *Sniffle* I don’t know how they’ll ever get to eternity when it’s hard to say they’ll even get to survive the next 24 hours, weeks or months apart. *Sniffle* I hope Tina will still change her mind but if not…then, *Thank you very much* for this lovely, funny, sometimes sexy high school TiBette tale. It’s been a great ride, Alchemy! *Crysmiles like Bette* Okay… I’m gonna go to a corner now and cry my heart out. Boohoo. :(
This is sad !
That ws beautiful and sad, it brought tears to my eyes.
I laughed and cried ….. It just broke my heart :( But there has to be a happy ending in here some where :)
Great chptr, Al will there be a sequl to this story maybe College life ???
Hey Alchemy! So glad to have you back with another chapter, but extremely sad that the end is coming. I have loved this story from the beginning as your writing is incredible. I have the feeling Tina had decided to go with Bette, but will maybe stick to their plan now that Bette has left. Bette’s letter had me teary-eyed which is one of the best things about your writing… one minute I’m laughing out loud, the next I’m choked up. Thanks for the post.
Sniff sniff. This was hard, I laughed and cried very hard. How come? Tina go get you future wife please?
