Just The Girl – Chapter Fifty Four (a HYD-inspired fic)

    Bette frowned.

“You want to surf? Then we’ll surf.” She stood up and pulled the smiling blonde to the rental shack.

    Score one for Team Kennard.

Bette had come to realize once more how great it was to have adrenaline pumping through her veins after a particularly exhilarating run in with a huge wave. She was grossly out of practice, yet surprisingly, she quickly found her balance and stayed on top of her game. Moving flawlessly through the blue waters on instinct, she guessed that there were some things that your body automatically recalled even when your mind seemed to have forgotten already. And so far, her feet had stuck marvelously like a leech on the board as she rode wave after wave. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about Tina. For all her bravado, the poor girl had the tendency to wipe out. And wipe out she did – in the most spectacular ways.

“That was fun!” Bette squealed as she paddled her board towards her fallen girlfriend. The last wave was the biggest one yet, and she was on a roll. “One more go?” She asked, sitting down and extending a hand to a sputtering Tina.

“No thank you.” Tina gagged as the salty water assaulted her taste buds.

“C’mon Kennard, where’s your sense of adventure?” Brown eyes sparkled wickedly, mimicking the blonde’s previous words.

Tina took the offered hand and pulled Bette into the ocean. “Shut up.”

    Day Three

They were walking along the shopping area in Lana’i city when Bette grabbed Tina’s hand and pulled her into a quaint little souvenir shop.

“I thought you wanted to see the handmade necklaces? These are all shirts and silly hats.” Tina said as the clerk greeted them in the local dialect.

“We need to get the girls something back from our trip.” Bette explained, going through racks and racks of Hawaiian themed shirts and objects. She stopped by a shelf overflowing with shot glasses and decided to get a couple for Shane to add to her collection. “You should pick out something for your dad too.” She told Tina over her shoulder.

For the next few minutes, they went around the store, scourging the place for the perfect gifts.

    2. There is so much that could happen, and you say the End is next…will they remain together or fall apart? I can finally read now that the tears have cleared, thanks for the post!!

    3. god how i love this story, every chapter is like a mini book! i’m not right stoked to read that the next will be the last though, i absolutely love how you write these two…especially bette! my only hope is that you keep them together and that you promise to carry on writing other stories…well????!

    4. What was Tina going to say to Bette on the beach? Will Tina be able to forgive Bette for not saying goodbye? Will Tina catch the next available flight out to Connecticut? I hope so… I can’t wait to see how you wrap everything up, but I’m really going to miss this story. Thanks for the chapter.

    5. This has/is an incredible story. I look for it daily and was so glad to see a post today. Please say it isn’t so, Your not ending it are you? Their still young and have slots to go through. A sequel maybe?.

    6. WOW!!!!! I just got a chance to read all 37 pages of it-it was a long one…but well worth it. I can understand why Bette went ahead & left-but Tina will be hurt…but I think she will understand. I hope they can work through this & I can’t wait for the next update. Great job.

    7. *Sniffle* Oh dear, this has got to be the saddest JTG chapter. *Sniffle* So begging on my knees didn’t work. *Sniffle* I don’t know how they’ll ever get to eternity when it’s hard to say they’ll even get to survive the next 24 hours, weeks or months apart. *Sniffle* I hope Tina will still change her mind but if not…then, *Thank you very much* for this lovely, funny, sometimes sexy high school TiBette tale. It’s been a great ride, Alchemy! *Crysmiles like Bette* Okay… I’m gonna go to a corner now and cry my heart out. Boohoo. :(

    8. Hey Alchemy! So glad to have you back with another chapter, but extremely sad that the end is coming. I have loved this story from the beginning as your writing is incredible. I have the feeling Tina had decided to go with Bette, but will maybe stick to their plan now that Bette has left. Bette’s letter had me teary-eyed which is one of the best things about your writing… one minute I’m laughing out loud, the next I’m choked up. Thanks for the post.
