Just The Girl – Chapter Fifty Four (a HYD-inspired fic)

She leaned back against a metal bar for support as the shuttle started to move. Beside her, a sniffling Tina was resting her forehead on her shoulder – feeling a little under the weather. They didn’t know what it was, but something triggered the blonde’s allergies this morning. And since breakfast ended, Tina had been sneezing and sniffling non-stop. A concerned Bette tried to get the girl back to the room to rest, but Tina would hear none of it – insisting that her condition was a passing thing and they should go ahead with their day plans and visit the beach.

    “ACHOOOOO!”

Bette flinched as Tina sneezed right into her face, inadvertently spraying her with saliva.

“Oh God, I’m so sorry..” The flustered blonde quickly wiped her girlfriend’s face with her hands, mortified at what she had done.

“It’s okay. Not like it’s the first time I got covered in your liquids.” Bette winked, trying to make light of the situation to ease Tina’s embarrassment. “Here, baby.” She handed her a tissue from inside her tote bag.

“Thanks babe.” A blushing Tina mumbled and covered her mouth with the tissue to save herself from another awkward situation. She wrinkled her nose when she felt another sneeze about to come out.

    “ACHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!”

Bette kissed the top of Tina’s blonde mane and held on to her waist to support her weak girlfriend. She glanced surreptitiously at the seats nearest them. They were occupied by a loud group of middle-aged vacationers, overflowing with excitement about their first company outing in two years. She sighed ruefully. If only the women had been younger and of the opposite gender, she would have shot her mouth off and called them to be more gentleman-like and let her poor girlfriend take a seat. But they weren’t, so she wisely kept her mouth shut. As much as she would have liked to ask one of them to move, she knew she couldn’t. Tina wouldn’t like it if she forced an older person to stand in her behalf. Sick or not, she would think it’s rude.

Looking outside the window, another sigh escaped her lips. Their destination, Lopa beach, was the shuttle’s last stop, and she would bet that more than half of the people sitting down were going to the same place as them. So far, they had yet to reach their first destination – and even then, they still had two hours and seven more stops to go.

    2. There is so much that could happen, and you say the End is next…will they remain together or fall apart? I can finally read now that the tears have cleared, thanks for the post!!

    3. god how i love this story, every chapter is like a mini book! i’m not right stoked to read that the next will be the last though, i absolutely love how you write these two…especially bette! my only hope is that you keep them together and that you promise to carry on writing other stories…well????!

    4. What was Tina going to say to Bette on the beach? Will Tina be able to forgive Bette for not saying goodbye? Will Tina catch the next available flight out to Connecticut? I hope so… I can’t wait to see how you wrap everything up, but I’m really going to miss this story. Thanks for the chapter.

    5. This has/is an incredible story. I look for it daily and was so glad to see a post today. Please say it isn’t so, Your not ending it are you? Their still young and have slots to go through. A sequel maybe?.

    6. WOW!!!!! I just got a chance to read all 37 pages of it-it was a long one…but well worth it. I can understand why Bette went ahead & left-but Tina will be hurt…but I think she will understand. I hope they can work through this & I can’t wait for the next update. Great job.

    7. *Sniffle* Oh dear, this has got to be the saddest JTG chapter. *Sniffle* So begging on my knees didn’t work. *Sniffle* I don’t know how they’ll ever get to eternity when it’s hard to say they’ll even get to survive the next 24 hours, weeks or months apart. *Sniffle* I hope Tina will still change her mind but if not…then, *Thank you very much* for this lovely, funny, sometimes sexy high school TiBette tale. It’s been a great ride, Alchemy! *Crysmiles like Bette* Okay… I’m gonna go to a corner now and cry my heart out. Boohoo. :(

    8. Hey Alchemy! So glad to have you back with another chapter, but extremely sad that the end is coming. I have loved this story from the beginning as your writing is incredible. I have the feeling Tina had decided to go with Bette, but will maybe stick to their plan now that Bette has left. Bette’s letter had me teary-eyed which is one of the best things about your writing… one minute I’m laughing out loud, the next I’m choked up. Thanks for the post.
