Just The Girl – Chapter Fifty Three (a HYD-inspired fic)

“Why the heck is she acting like Sarah Palin?” Alice leaned forward and whispered to Bette, ignoring the girl who was sitting between them.

“Beats me.” Bette cringed as Phyllis did an open mouthed wink. God, that was disturbing.

Ignoring the appalled expression on the students’ faces, Phyllis went through the customary welcome remarks before launching straight into her speech. Three minutes in, people started wishing that their chairs had barf bags underneath. The headmistress certainly knows how to bring her audience to tears – but not the kind that she was hoping for. After finishing up with giving her “inspirational” words of wisdom, she proceeded to steer away from the topic of graduation to say a few things about the new amphitheater.

“..Andrew J. Rothberg, the dedicated educator and the brilliant man who started it all. The founder of this glorious academy for girls, this amphitheater is a dedication to his vision and work..”

This is it, Bette slyly winked at Alice as Phyllis rounded up to the latter part of her five paged speech.

“..and he may have lived way ahead of our time, but I, Phyllis Adams Kroll, had the opportunity to meet and talk with him..” She gave an exaggerated nod before continuing. “..in my dreams.” Bette and Alice bit their thumbs to stifle their laughter. Somewhere up front, Shane and Sam were doing the same. God, she was so full of shit. “..and in my dreams, he came up to me and said: Phyllis,” She paused for dramatic effect and took a deep breath. “..fuck off.”

A collective gasp sounded inside the amphitheater. Even Phyllis was stunned by what she had just said.

“One down, three to go.” Shane whispered beneath her breath. And the first one was just a warm up, she smiled impishly.

Phyllis shook her head and readjusted her glasses, checking to see if she had read the wrong thing. That was weird, the prompter was displaying the right words. No signs of profanity on the small screen. Maybe her eyes were playing a trick on her. She coughed and composed herself before picking up where she had left off.

“..uh.. and he said to me: Phyllis, learn from my work and emulate my deeds, bring my vision to life.” She exclaimed emphatically, trying to forget – and make people forget – her glaring mistake a few seconds back. As if. “And I said to him, Mister Rothberg sir, I am but your humble pupil and I will gladly learn at your feet. Teach me the way to greatness!” She pumped a fist in the air. She closed her eyes and placed a hand over her chest, desperate to convey how “emotional” she was. “And to honor my promise and as a way to remember his legacy, the board has named this amphitheater after the great man himself and commissioned a famous sculptor to bring my vision to life.” She motioned to the other side of the stage where a tall curtain covered a huge structure. All eyes turned to where she was pointing. “Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you, Tom Mater’s Learning at the Feet of the Master..”

    1. See… My heart dropped at page 30. I knew something sad was on its way. I really love how you write. So good! Soooo good! But please fix this. It’s too good to end it like how I think it is. Unless you’re doing it like the show which has a chapter 2.

    2. Oh, no! I feared this might happen, but I trust you to make everything turn out right for our girls. BTW since you left it like that, you can’t keep us waiting long!

    3. i can’t believe tina wants to go to different schools… and could under stand if it was money… but thats not an issue… i some times don’t under stand her… she has to realize bette will not go to yale… ok i trust you to make things right… MERRY CHRISTMAS… to you and your family… PPS

    4. i absolutely love, love love this story and i get frustrated at the length of time between posts but when you post you soooooo make it for it!! The way you write these two (especially Bette) is just brilliant even though its quite obvious Bette is whipped by Tina i’m not sure it’s all gonna go Tinas way this time…can they really be parted long term?!! pps!

    5. Man, I was having withdrawls & it wasn’t pretty…I am so glad that you are back. It was a long chapter & was way wirth the read. very funny & sexy.. I loved F4’S pranks-they were classic. Great job!!!!!

    6. What a power Tina’sgotover Bette? A bit sad at the end. Hope Tina will go with Bette. These two can not be apart. Thank you for the long chapter, you are rock. PPS

    7. Noooo long disyance never works. Suck it up Tina and go to Yale or just let Bette go to USC, it really doesn’t matter where you go to school, it’s how you run with the big boys! PPS

    8. ur gonna split them up. tina is right bette needs to grow and so does she.. distance will only make the heart grow fonder! please don’t let tina hook up with guys:)PPS

    9. Damn, I so saw that coming but still my heart broke a liitle. I am glad Tina is going to give Bette what she needs. I just hope they make it through college still together. I love this Story. Thank you

    10. Wow, a 33-page update. You’re an awesome writer, Alchemy. The lovebirds’ “unique” reviewing method in the last chapter is awfully funny! :> I’m not familiar with HYD but I have a bad feeling on how this story is gonna end. So Alchemy, if I go down on my knees and beg, would you consider deviating from the probable gloomy ending of that story and give us a happy ending instead? I don’t know how their relationship will survive such distance and painful parting. There’s enough gloom in the real world right now what with the global recession and all the other shit that when I retreat into the fictional world of these young, horny lovebirds, I just want to see them happy, together and in love. Please, please fix this ending, Alchemy. Anyway, thanks a lot for sharing this story and writing these lovely, kilometric updates! And Merry Chrismas to you and your loved ones!!! :>
