Battling to blink back her tears, the blonde answered her with silence. Afraid that her voice would give her away.
When she didn’t hear a response, Bette suddenly felt an inkling of nervousness bubbling up inside her. Uh-oh, did she say something wrong? “I’m sorry, was I being too mushy?”
Tina shook her head, inhaling deeply to try and regain her sense of calm. “No.”
Bette sighed in relief. “Good, cause sometimes, being overly cheesy makes things sound insincere.” When what she was feeling for the blonde was anything BUT insincere.
“Porter?”
“Hm?”
“What you just said, did you mean all of that?”
Bette nodded. “Yes, I did.”
“Everything and anything?”
“Uh-huh.”
“You promise?”
“I promise.” Bette punctuated her vow with the gentlest kiss on Tina’s lips. “You’re not going somewhere with this, are you?” She asked, her face betraying her amusement.
Actually, I am. Tina sighed inwardly. Inside her mind, she apologized to Bette for backing her up in a corner, but this was the only way that she could get her stubborn girlfriend to do what she was going to ask her to. “What do you think about Yale?”
“You know what I think about it.” Bette looked at Tina curiously.
“Do you think its a good school?”
“No,” She shook her head. “It’s a great school.”
“Better than USC?”
Bette clamped her lips shut and bit her tongue, knowing that her opinion could earn her a night inside the dog house.
“You don’t have to be afraid to speak your mind. You haven’t been exactly silent about your opinions in the past.” Tina gently cajoled.
Bette sighed. Fine. “Yeah, its better than USC.” She admitted. “Waaay better.” She added beneath her breath.
“Good.”
“Good?” Bette furrowed her brows in confusion. What the heck was going on?
“What do you think about you attending Ya-”
Before Tina could finish her question, Bette clamped a hand over her mouth. Holy shit, her mind went straight into overdrive. Tina was going to enroll in USC, she was sure about that.. and yet here she was, asking her about going to Yale. Suddenly, everything became clear.
“Kennard, what’s going on?” Bette asked fearfully, uncovering the blonde’s mouth.
Tina steadied herself. It’s now or never, reminded her brain. “Babe, I’ve been selfish long enough. I don’t want you to give up your dreams, I don’t want to hold you back. You need to follow your heart and..”
“That’s stupid.” A bitter laugh found its way out Bette’s lips. “Follow my heart? If I do that, I’d just end up going wherever you are.”
Tina sighed and looked down on her feet. This really isn’t going to be easy. “Please don’t make this hard..” She whispered her plea.
“It doesn’t have to be. Kennard, we already decided on this. We both agreed that we’d be together. I told you, anywhere is fine with me as long as I’m with you.”
“I know, but..”
“What made you change your mind?” Bette asked, desperation laced in her voice. Her face fell as a thought struck her. “Shit, are you having doubts about us?”
“No, I’m not.” Tina reassured, her voice firm.
Bette cupped her forehead and looked away. “Then what is it? Why are you letting me go?”
“I’m not letting you go! I’m just..”
“Just what?”
“I’m just giving you room to grow.”
“That’s bull. We could do that together.”
“You promised..”
“I did, but..”
“You said anything and everything..”
Bette pinched the bridge of her nose. Dammit, killed by her own sword.
“Porter, I..”
“Baby, please. Don’t.” She pleaded, her eyes sad and full of fear. At the back of her mind, she knew what Tina was going to ask of her.
Tina averted her gaze, she can’t do this with Bette looking at her like that. It was breaking her heart. She tried to speak but her mouth felt so dry. Blinking back her tears, she bit her trembling lips and squeezed Bette’s hand – trying to get some strength from her love. She needed to do this.
“Porter, I.. I want you to go to Yale..”

See… My heart dropped at page 30. I knew something sad was on its way. I really love how you write. So good! Soooo good! But please fix this. It’s too good to end it like how I think it is. Unless you’re doing it like the show which has a chapter 2.

i absolutely love, love love this story and i get frustrated at the length of time between posts but when you post you soooooo make it for it!! The way you write these two (especially Bette) is just brilliant even though its quite obvious Bette is whipped by Tina i’m not sure it’s all gonna go Tinas way this time…can they really be parted long term?!! pps!

Wow, a 33-page update. You’re an awesome writer, Alchemy. The lovebirds’ “unique” reviewing method in the last chapter is awfully funny! :> I’m not familiar with HYD but I have a bad feeling on how this story is gonna end. So Alchemy, if I go down on my knees and beg, would you consider deviating from the probable gloomy ending of that story and give us a happy ending instead? I don’t know how their relationship will survive such distance and painful parting. There’s enough gloom in the real world right now what with the global recession and all the other shit that when I retreat into the fictional world of these young, horny lovebirds, I just want to see them happy, together and in love. Please, please fix this ending, Alchemy. Anyway, thanks a lot for sharing this story and writing these lovely, kilometric updates! And Merry Chrismas to you and your loved ones!!! :>
