    Chapter 28, Part 2: Ladies, get in line (Bette and Tina visit the CAC and we meet a few new faces)

     

    “Pieszecki,” Alice said, looking at Helena with suspicion, “Alice Pieszecki from ‘LA Magazine’, nice to meet you, Ms. Peabody. I actually wrote an article about you a year ago when you mother’s foundation gave its first grant to ‘Stephen Cohen gallery’ in West Hollywood.”

     

    “I’m sure I read it but forgive me if I don’t remember. There are so many articles written about The Peabody Foundation, I could never remember them all. And I spend most of my time in New York…” Helena’s condescending tone wasn’t lost on anyone. She suddenly paused and looked at Tina, who was standing beside Bette, still holding her hand.

     

    “…But I think all this is going to change,” Helena finished, slowly checking Tina up and down. “Franklin, darling, I need the budget for 2006 to be ready by November 15 and I’ll see you at the meeting tonight. Ladies, it was a pleasure,” she said, glancing at Tina one more time. She left the office and a trail of her strong overwhelming perfume in the air.

     

    Franklin smiled uncomfortably and said, “Um, Bette…would you like to take a tour of the gallery? I have a construction crew preparing exhibits right now so be aware of people working and materials lying around.”

     

    Bette followed Franklin to look at a few paintings while asking him some questions. Alice took Tina aside so they could talk.

     

    “So, Tina, how did Bette take all the news?” Alice asked impatiently.

     

    “How do you think she took them? She was upset, of course…she went completely crazy after she read about Maxine’s affair and when she found out that her real father was black.”

     

    “What did she say about Christina being alive?”

     

    Tina didn’t respond right away, pretending to admire a painting on wall.

     

    “Tina,” Alice said seriously, “You did tell Bette about Christina, right?”

     

    “I couldn’t Alice, I just couldn’t. I can’t lose her,” Tina answered wearily.

     

    “But the portal doesn’t open until January and you don’t even know if she wants to leave,” Alice whispered so no one could overhear them.

     

    “I just couldn’t face the possibility of that,” Tina whispered back. “She might put up those damn walls around her heart again and shut me down while thinking about returning to Christina. I don’t think I’m ready for that.”

    1. Whoa…I missed this last night. I went to bed before you posted, but it was a triffic surprise when I got home from work tonight! So, Bette is going to work…will Tina get her a Social Security Number? You little devil…throwing in Candace. Super update and you know what B&TF, if people aren’t reading this story, it is their loss, because it is a great story. It’s haunting like the movie Somewhere in Time.

    2. Hahaha ! ” Tina pulled Bette away from the predators “. This was an excellent chapter, B&TF ! Well done ! I love how you put familiar names and faces in it. And again, I’m really sorry if I haven’t commented on the last few chapters, but I’ve been ourt of town for a couple of weeks and then my internet connection has been down for almost a week… So anyways, let’s just say I’ve only started catching up on my fan fiction reading yesterday. And usual, no matter how many chapters I read in a row, I confess I always want more of this story !! This is how talented you are B&TF !

    4. Maybe Helena and Candace can hook up and leave Bette and Tina alone. Alice is right, both Bette and Tina are hot and anybody in their right mind would find one or both extremely sizzling.

    5. Uh, B$TF [whispering] The last chapter got 4 comments. So 4 is magical,too. Besides, Jennfer Beals luvs you. Nothing else matters !!!! You’ve complicated the plot with Candace and Helena. I guess The Twink and Nadia wouldn’t quite fit the romance. Anyway, I can’t wait for the magical 3 next chapter.
