Just The Girl – Chapter Forty Eight Part Two (a HYD-inspired fic)
Sensing that the brunette wouldn’t be moving any time soon, Tina pulled up a nearby chair and made Bette sit beside the bed – something her girlfriend did without complaints. Almost as quickly as she sat down, Bette pulled Tina unto her lap, and both girls just sat there, watching over the sick man in silence. Both lost in their own thoughts, although both also thinking in the same line. This sleeping man.. he was the same man who had tried to tear them apart, but there was also something remarkably different about him now. He looked.. lighter. Less serious, less dark. Maybe because he nearly died, they surmised, or maybe because he was sleeping. And even wolves look like meek lambs in their sleep.
Quiet observation.
Silent contemplation.
That’s what they did.
Until a few moments later, when a soft knock broke the peace.
“Miss Porter?” A distinguished-looking doctor addressed Bette as he quietly entered the room. Both girls looked his way and carefully disentangled themselves from one another as they stood on their feet. Ever since her first immunization shot, a doctor’s presence always made Bette feel nervous. Strange that she didn’t feel that way now. There was something about this man’s warm blue eyes that relaxed her and somehow set her mind at ease. Maybe the fact that he looked competent enough played a big part. The doctor’s short, silver mane complemented his crisp white coat, the embroidery on which told her that he was the head of the hospital’s Cardio-Thoracic surgical team. “I’m Doctor Griffin, your father’s cardiologist.” He introduced himself and shook hands with the young girl.
“Bette Porter. Nice to meet you.” Bette smiled weakly, anxious to hear about the news that the doctor was about to share. “This is Tina Kennard.” She motioned to the blonde beside her. “She’s family.” She quickly added, in case the doctor thought of sending her out. A blushing Tina followed her lead and shook hands with the man as well. “How’s my dad?” Bette asked as soon as they got the introductions out of the way, not wanting to beat around the bush.
The doctor eyed the sleeping Melvin as he spoke. “He’s fine now, he’s just regaining lost strength.” He faced the two girls again and smiled. “He was feeling very anxious and uncomfortable when he regained consciousness this morning. So, he was given morphine to calm him down and relieve his heart from the extra work load.” He explained slowly. “I believe he’ll wake soon.” He informed them.

I knew that eventually that Melvin was going to see the similar traits between Maxine and Tina and of course himself and Bette. I am also glad that you let Melvin survive.
Okay now the dad’s have to make up, that would be interesting. I can’t wait, but I will. Good luck on the test and study hard. We need to come up with some kind of drama, but no heart-attack-rendering-I-can’t-believe-she-would-do-that-shit, I wanna cry happiness not heart break. Love it, love it. Should you turn this story into a book, I would love to be the first on the waiting list to buy. Tah!
