“Okay.” Bette breathed out and steadied herself. It was time. “Thank you James.” She looked up and blinked a couple of times, trying to hold back the tears that were once again welling up inside her eyes. “This is it. Wish me luck.” She smiled brightly as she broke her hold on Sonja and began her journey towards the door.
“Good luck.” James balled up his hands into fists as he stood beside Sonja.
“Miss Bette?” Sonja called out as the brunette reached the exit. Bette stopped on her tracks but didn’t look back, the tears were flowing freely from her eyes now and she could no longer hold them back. “No goodbyes, okay?” Sonja smiled as her lips quivered. “We’ll see you later..” She sniffled and lifted her apron to her face and sobbed quietly as James held her close. Her little girl was all grown up.

Melvin Porter stepped out of his black Rolls Royce limousine and frowned when he eyed the taxi parked inside his courtyard. It couldn’t be.. he shook his head at the thought that suddenly crossed his mind. He exhaled loudly as he fixed his neck tie and buttoned up his jacket. His daughter probably had a visitor inside, he squashed the uneasy feeling bubbling inside his stomach. A little tunneled visioned, he barely acknowledged the staff waiting for him by the entrance of the mansion as he walked past them. As soon as he set foot inside the mansion, he froze in place.. feeling like the air was violently punched out of his lungs as he took in the sight waiting for him.
He remembered the numerous times a few years ago when he would come home to this sight. As much as he would try to appear unaffected by it, he always looked forward to seeing his little girl waiting for him by the foot of the stairs when he came home after a few months in New York or from some other country in the world. Bette would always be there, sometimes with a banner.. sometimes with a card and balloons. Though the kind of welcome would change from time to time, there was something that always remained the same. His precious little girl always had a huge smile on her face as she welcomed him home.

Great chapter, I’m so proud of Bette! I think her $500K cushion might not be enough, for some reason. I loved the way U explained how sore Tina was from all the love making & how she explained to her dad about riding a black beauty all day-such a classic use of a metaphor referring to sex. Only someone like Bette would think 500 thousand was being poor-Too funny!!! Great job as always.
