Beside a window at the second floor of the mansion, a lone figure stood behind a curtain and quietly observed the taxi pulling away from the courtyard with sad eyes. Melvin Porter sighed as he held his daughter’s letter with slightly trembling hands, ignoring the dull ache from within his chest. As the taxi finally disappeared from view, he closed his eyes.. allowing a distant memory to flood his senses..
She has your eyes..
Yeah.. yeah, she does. You know what this means right?
What?
She’ll grow up just like me. Smart, strong willed, determined, beautiful..
I beg to disagree about the smart part. She got her amazing intellect from me.
Oh no my dear, the only thing that our poor little girl inherited from you are her stubborn and hardheaded genes.
Why does Elizabeth get to inherit your good traits and all of my bad ones?
Cause all you have are bad traits, you don’t have good ones Mel.

I’m kidding! But you should start preparing yourself. This girl will grow up just like her mother.. which means that she won’t take any shit from you. You will be putty in her hands..

Melvin opened his eyes and walked away from the window. He stopped by a life-sized portrait of a captivating, blonde woman and smiled ruefully. “You’re right.” He whispered as he stared at the woman who still held his cold, uncaring heart. “You were always right.”

First of all, let me just say that I do not hate you. And I am not doing this to spite you. Truth be told, I am grateful that you cut me off. I needed to grow up. I needed to learn a few important life lessons. And I wouldn’t be able to learn how to stand on my own without that push from you. You have always given me everything, now its time for me to give back – by showing you that despite your frequent absence in my life, you have raised a good kid.

Great chapter, I’m so proud of Bette! I think her $500K cushion might not be enough, for some reason. I loved the way U explained how sore Tina was from all the love making & how she explained to her dad about riding a black beauty all day-such a classic use of a metaphor referring to sex. Only someone like Bette would think 500 thousand was being poor-Too funny!!! Great job as always.
