Just The Girl – Chapter Fifty Four (a HYD-inspired fic)

Following Sam’s lead, I slid inside the car beside a sleeping Alice. Gross, she was drooling. I slapped a hanky to her chin and angle my shoulder away from her mouth for good measure. Reaching a hand in front, I tapped a hung over Shane on the shoulder in greeting. She acknowledged me with a grunt, which I guess is another way to say good morning in drunk-speak.

With everything in place, I turn to the driver.

    I’m doing this for you.

    “Let’s go.”

    ——————————

    Two weeks before..

    “Kennard!”

    “I’m coming!”

“You said that five minutes ago!”

    “Did I?”

    “Uh.. yeah?”

    “Heh.. I lied.”

    “I know that now!”

“Jeez, why are you so cranky?”

“I’ve been waiting here for fifteen minutes.”

“Well then another minute won’t hurt you.”

    “Kennard!”

    “Fine, fine. I’m coming..”

Juvenile as it was, Bette couldn’t stop herself from making annoyed grunts as she snapped her phone shut. Like a telegraph machine, her foot moved on its own accord and started tapping impatiently on the pavement – sending an irate message to her tardy girlfriend in Morse code. Glancing at her wristwatch for the umpteenth time, she ran a frustrated hand through her perfectly and painstakingly blowdried curls. If she had a knack for promptness, then Tina had a penchant for lateness. Yin and Yang, so they say. She looked up to their living room window and frowned when she saw a light blue blur pass by, ruffling the curtains.

    Oh no, she didn’t-!

“Kennard!” Bette shouted as loud as her vocal chords would allow.

“I’m coming!” A cheery voice respond from up above.

I’m coming, eh? Bette blew out a frustrated breath, kicking an empty tuna can that was lying aimlessly by her feet. It hit a nearby bum on the stomach, but the guy was too passed out to notice. In her anger, she didn’t even bother to apologize to the sleeping man. I’m coming. I’m coming. I’m coming. While she might be receptive to hearing those words uttered repeatedly in the throes of passion, she’s afraid she can’t say the same at this time.

    2. There is so much that could happen, and you say the End is next…will they remain together or fall apart? I can finally read now that the tears have cleared, thanks for the post!!

    3. god how i love this story, every chapter is like a mini book! i’m not right stoked to read that the next will be the last though, i absolutely love how you write these two…especially bette! my only hope is that you keep them together and that you promise to carry on writing other stories…well????!

    4. What was Tina going to say to Bette on the beach? Will Tina be able to forgive Bette for not saying goodbye? Will Tina catch the next available flight out to Connecticut? I hope so… I can’t wait to see how you wrap everything up, but I’m really going to miss this story. Thanks for the chapter.

    5. This has/is an incredible story. I look for it daily and was so glad to see a post today. Please say it isn’t so, Your not ending it are you? Their still young and have slots to go through. A sequel maybe?.

    6. WOW!!!!! I just got a chance to read all 37 pages of it-it was a long one…but well worth it. I can understand why Bette went ahead & left-but Tina will be hurt…but I think she will understand. I hope they can work through this & I can’t wait for the next update. Great job.

    7. *Sniffle* Oh dear, this has got to be the saddest JTG chapter. *Sniffle* So begging on my knees didn’t work. *Sniffle* I don’t know how they’ll ever get to eternity when it’s hard to say they’ll even get to survive the next 24 hours, weeks or months apart. *Sniffle* I hope Tina will still change her mind but if not…then, *Thank you very much* for this lovely, funny, sometimes sexy high school TiBette tale. It’s been a great ride, Alchemy! *Crysmiles like Bette* Okay… I’m gonna go to a corner now and cry my heart out. Boohoo. :(

    8. Hey Alchemy! So glad to have you back with another chapter, but extremely sad that the end is coming. I have loved this story from the beginning as your writing is incredible. I have the feeling Tina had decided to go with Bette, but will maybe stick to their plan now that Bette has left. Bette’s letter had me teary-eyed which is one of the best things about your writing… one minute I’m laughing out loud, the next I’m choked up. Thanks for the post.
