Just The Girl – Chapter Fifty Four (a HYD-inspired fic)
“Whoops, sorry.” I sneered when he tripped face first on the floor, his lanky frame sprawled out like an eagle. Gracefully, I pull my foot back. With a triumphant bounce, I step over the guy and make my way towards the doors of the building. I smile as I hear him groan. Cough on dust, asshole.
I wandered out to the sidewalk and stood for a minute, gazing up at my bedroom window. Behind the glass and curtains – she was there. Tucked snuggly under a comforter, surrounded by pillows – the same ones that I had placed protectively around her like a fort before I left. It was still early, and from our activities last night, I would say that she wouldn’t be up until later. Hopefully.
There is nothing in this world that I am incapable of doing for her. I remind myself again as my feet ached to run back to my apartment. Her mere presence drawing me there like a magnet.
Yet despite the powerful pull, I stand my ground. Held my place. I was breaking at the seams, but somehow, I managed to hold myself together for the time being.
“Are you sure this is the right thing to do?” Sam appeared beside me, stretching her arms above her head. There wasn’t any anger or reproach in her voice, just tiredness that she barely concealed. Nobody was a morning person in our small band of friends.
“Would you have done the same for Helena?” I ask quietly, my gaze never leaving the unopened window. Through the corner of my eyes, I see her head move up and down. I guess we were both suckers for our loved ones then. “Then it’s the right thing to do.” I sigh sadly.
That was the last thing I said before I was swept into a heartfelt hug by my bestfriend. To say I was surprised was an understatement. I stood there like an idiot while Sam held me, my arms locked rigidly to my sides.
“Uh, buddy?” I say tentatively, keeping my hands in place. I could see that low-life Lee Stevens looking at us from across the street, probably itching to tell Tina how he saw me in the arms of someone else. What the heck is he doing out of jail? “Sam, what’re you doing?”

There is so much that could happen, and you say the End is next…will they remain together or fall apart? I can finally read now that the tears have cleared, thanks for the post!!
god how i love this story, every chapter is like a mini book! i’m not right stoked to read that the next will be the last though, i absolutely love how you write these two…especially bette! my only hope is that you keep them together and that you promise to carry on writing other stories…well????!
What was Tina going to say to Bette on the beach? Will Tina be able to forgive Bette for not saying goodbye? Will Tina catch the next available flight out to Connecticut? I hope so… I can’t wait to see how you wrap everything up, but I’m really going to miss this story. Thanks for the chapter.
Wow that was an amazing chapter! and so many looming questions. PPS
Wow-your story never ceases to amaze me. I love it and your writing, and I hope to see both soon in a sequel to this story! PPS!
This has/is an incredible story. I look for it daily and was so glad to see a post today. Please say it isn’t so, Your not ending it are you? Their still young and have slots to go through. A sequel maybe?.
Its coming to an end, does it have to? I love this chapter for all the right reasons. Please dont keep to long for the next one. Thanks
WOW!!! That was Amazing!!! I just hope that the end will be just as good. Thank you PPS
WOW!!!!! I just got a chance to read all 37 pages of it-it was a long one…but well worth it. I can understand why Bette went ahead & left-but Tina will be hurt…but I think she will understand. I hope they can work through this & I can’t wait for the next update. Great job.
*Sniffle* Oh dear, this has got to be the saddest JTG chapter. *Sniffle* So begging on my knees didn’t work. *Sniffle* I don’t know how they’ll ever get to eternity when it’s hard to say they’ll even get to survive the next 24 hours, weeks or months apart. *Sniffle* I hope Tina will still change her mind but if not…then, *Thank you very much* for this lovely, funny, sometimes sexy high school TiBette tale. It’s been a great ride, Alchemy! *Crysmiles like Bette* Okay… I’m gonna go to a corner now and cry my heart out. Boohoo. :(
This is sad !
That ws beautiful and sad, it brought tears to my eyes.
I laughed and cried ….. It just broke my heart :( But there has to be a happy ending in here some where :)
Great chptr, Al will there be a sequl to this story maybe College life ???
Hey Alchemy! So glad to have you back with another chapter, but extremely sad that the end is coming. I have loved this story from the beginning as your writing is incredible. I have the feeling Tina had decided to go with Bette, but will maybe stick to their plan now that Bette has left. Bette’s letter had me teary-eyed which is one of the best things about your writing… one minute I’m laughing out loud, the next I’m choked up. Thanks for the post.
Sniff sniff. This was hard, I laughed and cried very hard. How come? Tina go get you future wife please?
