The Absence of One chapter 31
She watched Bette disappear around the corner, and huffed a sigh of relief. There were too many thoughts swirling in her mind. Tina tried to push those thoughts away, but two words kept standing out. Barbara Grisham.
No matter how hard she tried, that name kept popping in her head. It was taunting her, goading her into taking drastic measures. Her heart starting beating faster as thoughts of her ex-wife and her daughter being in the arms of the senator plagued her.
When Bette returned with a bleary-eyed Angelica, a slightly more composed Tina greeted them. She offered the little girl a bright smile, earning an enthusiastic reply. Bette handed Tina the precious cargo without prompting, taking a seat across from the duo.
“Play!” Angelica demanded, banging her teddy bear on Tina’s lap. Her free hand gripped Tina’s neck tight, pulling on a few strands of blonde hair. “Mama play!”
“Ok, sweetie. Mama will play with you,” Tina slipped off the sofa and sat on the floor.
“No! Mama play,” Angelica insisted, crawling away from Tina with her teddy bear still in hand. She bumped Bette’s leg to stop her forward motion, tugging the pant leg as hard as she could. “Mama play with baby.”
Amused, Bette couldn’t help but laugh at their daughter’s antics. She slid down to the floor, and the little girl immediately climbed onto her lap. Angelica leaned over and grabbed her other mother’s hand, pulling her to sit closer.
Her insistent babbling was met with her mothers’ encouragement, their words egging her on. The story was a tangent of baby speaks, and Angelica’s audience was listening intently.
With their daughter’s best efforts, Tina was now sitting shoulder to shoulder with Bette. It was trying times, making Tina question the fairness of it all. Every time Bette tried to move away, Angelica would hold her in place.
While Bette was busy playing with their daughter, Tina stole glances at the duo. A small pang of jealousy hit her square in the chest at the sight. She had worked so hard, spent so much time to acquire Bette’s love. Yet, their pride and joy, a little more than 2 years old, was enjoying the full force of the Bette Porter treatment even before she was born.

Great update but to weigh in on the Bette and Barabara thing, I think Barbara just caters to Bette, she’s the proverbial doormat. Granted she has a lot of money and prestige for a doormat but all she seems to do is kiss Bette’s ass. I do think tina needs to earn her way back, if there is a way back but Barbara also needs to grow a set so Bette doesn’t just end up doing to her what she did to tina the first time around! (Getting off soap box now…) PPS
Wordy mcword to those who think it’s past time for Tina to move on. I’m looking forward to some Bette and Barbara alone-time after this tension-filled chapter. That said, you write tension very well; it’s painfully real.
bloody tragic…i’m crying for tina…find her someone gorgeous…
You have no idea what you’re doing to my poor tibette heart…it is achy breaky. can’t believe I keep asking for more of this heartwrenching pain. The convo between B&T was so hard to read. It looks like B may have moved on…I guess there comes a time when you just have to close that door and move forward. I hope that if this is the end for Tibette let’s give T some hope for a brighter future w/someone else. You can’t leave my girl in so much pain. I’m still up in the air about Barbara…you’re really going to have to write some great stuff to get me on her side completely. So get to typing. I just hope I can make it through this story w/out causing physical pain to someone. LOL Great update Sky.
This is sad!
Tina, Tina, Tina you snooze you lose, You’ve been the queen of mean to the very lovely dean.
Tina desperately needs to meet someone new, cos Bette’s never going to come around. Bitter pill, but she’ll have to swallow it. Move on, Tina… Bette already has. Thanks for the excellent post, sky. Have fun!
Great story and you’ve been missed. Have fun, be careful and please post. Barbara Grisham is the one only I’ll accept as Tina’s replacement. Certainly not Jodi. Blech!!
Great Chapter!!! I so agree with Jackiee1 and jp22. I think B&B are great together. Thanks Have a fun trip.
I feel Bette is settling with the Safe Bet, but in the long I feel Bette did the wrong thing, I know tina was cruel but Bette wasn’t all innocent in this relationship.
i love this and I can’t wait for the next post
