The Absence of One chapter 31
Bette turned around quickly to regard Tina, biting down her bubble of anger. “It means the world to me, Tina, and I think you know that.”
“Then why aren’t you even trying?” Tina scooted closer to her. “Why are you running away?”
“Insanity is doing the same thing while expecting a different outcome,” Bette began softly. “We’ve experienced not once but multiple times of the same outcome. Despite all the ugliness we’ve created, Angelica is the one thing we did right.”
“So let’s build on that,” Tina rested her hand on Bette’s thigh.
“I can’t,” Bette moved away. “We’re better off as co-parents than lovers.”
“You don’t believe that. You can’t believe that, Bette,” Tina followed Bette; she didn’t want to lose their connection. “Don’t run away from me. I love you.”
She closed her eyes, savoring the words. “I would have given anything to hear you say those words all those months ago.”
Tina jumped up as though she was burned. The sick flip of her stomach almost caused her to double over in pain. She watched the woman sitting on the couch. The eyes she had come to know so well was void of desire; the words held so much regret.
As the thought finally sunk in, Tina allowed her tears to flow freely. Mirroring their position at the beach, Bette held the blonde while she cried. Her hands smoothed soft, blonde hair, her lips offering no comforting words.
“I kept thinking you were scared, that you’re still mad at me for the mess I’ve made,” Tina said between sobs. “All this while, I had hoped that you’ll be there, waiting.”
“We’re more mature now. We can set our past aside and focus on Angelica,” Bette said, her hands continuing its soothing gestures.
She repositioned herself in Bette’s arms, letting the embrace shelter her from reality. If she closed her eyes and ignored her tears, Tina almost could pretend it was all a dream. Unconsciously, she nuzzled against Bette, not caring the damp hair in her way.
“Tina?” Bette stiffened when she felt Tina’s breath on her neck. She pulled away quickly, a confused look on her face. “What are you doing?”
“I couldn’t help myself,” she looked away in defeat. “I’m sorry. I should go.”

Great update but to weigh in on the Bette and Barabara thing, I think Barbara just caters to Bette, she’s the proverbial doormat. Granted she has a lot of money and prestige for a doormat but all she seems to do is kiss Bette’s ass. I do think tina needs to earn her way back, if there is a way back but Barbara also needs to grow a set so Bette doesn’t just end up doing to her what she did to tina the first time around! (Getting off soap box now…) PPS
Wordy mcword to those who think it’s past time for Tina to move on. I’m looking forward to some Bette and Barbara alone-time after this tension-filled chapter. That said, you write tension very well; it’s painfully real.
bloody tragic…i’m crying for tina…find her someone gorgeous…
You have no idea what you’re doing to my poor tibette heart…it is achy breaky. can’t believe I keep asking for more of this heartwrenching pain. The convo between B&T was so hard to read. It looks like B may have moved on…I guess there comes a time when you just have to close that door and move forward. I hope that if this is the end for Tibette let’s give T some hope for a brighter future w/someone else. You can’t leave my girl in so much pain. I’m still up in the air about Barbara…you’re really going to have to write some great stuff to get me on her side completely. So get to typing. I just hope I can make it through this story w/out causing physical pain to someone. LOL Great update Sky.
This is sad!
Tina, Tina, Tina you snooze you lose, You’ve been the queen of mean to the very lovely dean.
Tina desperately needs to meet someone new, cos Bette’s never going to come around. Bitter pill, but she’ll have to swallow it. Move on, Tina… Bette already has. Thanks for the excellent post, sky. Have fun!
Great story and you’ve been missed. Have fun, be careful and please post. Barbara Grisham is the one only I’ll accept as Tina’s replacement. Certainly not Jodi. Blech!!
Great Chapter!!! I so agree with Jackiee1 and jp22. I think B&B are great together. Thanks Have a fun trip.
I feel Bette is settling with the Safe Bet, but in the long I feel Bette did the wrong thing, I know tina was cruel but Bette wasn’t all innocent in this relationship.
i love this and I can’t wait for the next post
