Out of Closet (B&T time-travel romance), Ch. 12

“I’m sorry, I just didn’t know how comfortable you are talking about things like that, but I just want to tell you that I’ve always admired you for your talent and strength,” Tina said sincerely.

Kit smiled in return and said, getting off the sofa, “Well, the story you told me is pretty much what I already knew, except for the miniature painting part. I never heard about it and it’s really intriguing how it ended up in your family’s possession. I don’t know of any Porter-Kennard connection. However, I have something that might interest you, let me show it to you.”

She walked to a small bureau in a corner of the room, opened one of the compartments and took out a large manila envelope. She brought it to the sofa and spread the contents of the envelope on the coffee table.

To Tina’s surprise, Kit kept very interesting things, including some old letters and photographs, in spite of Professor Franklin sarcastic prediction that she sold it all to support her drug and alcohol addiction, including the precious painting by Elizabeth Porter.

Tina knew that because of the drug dependency earlier in Kit’s life and some struggle with alcohol, her career was on hiatus and she probably really needed money. And Tina admired her even more for being such a strong person, who was able to overcome her problems without resorting to giving away her family heritage.

Kit pulled out a thick stack of papers from the pile and showed it to Tina. “This is the copy of the will of my great-great-great-grandfather David Palmer, husband of Katherine Porter. This last will and testament has been passed from generation to generation through our main family line. This will was accompanied by a letter written by my grandfather, who was the only one actually interested in our family history.”

Kit smoothed the first page and said, “I’m not going to read it all, but the main parts. You already know that Katherine, Katie, as they called her, died from childbirth complications but not before giving birth to a beautiful baby boy, David Porter Palmer. So here it goes. My grandfather wrote, ‘David Sr. was in such grief over death of his wife, especially after her younger sister Elizabeth was murdered and the bastard who killed her was never found. So David made a will, which is more like a family legacy than anything.’”

    1. Hey there! Sorry about missing a comment on the last chapter. I must confess that with Christmas and going away to my family, my return was a bit overbusy. But I read it of course, and thanks so much for posting so soon again. I’m really hooked to this story, and I must admit, intrigued as well. I’m of course looking forward to their meeting, but I’m also curious about the murder mystery, and Christina whereabouts after that… Anyway, I’ll be patient until you take us there! Happy New Year to you, mate. And PPS! K ;)

    2. You are really building the intrigue for this story. You know what they say B&TF…some things are better the second time around! I never saw this the first time, but I’m sure enjoying it now. I can’t wait for the next update!

    3. Whether the story is edited or not, it is still one of my all time favorites. Reading it again is such a wonderful treat, and puts a smile on my face every time. Thank you S. And remember, even if you don’t see a lot of comments, we are still reading…silently, but still reading! Happy New Year!

    4. New Year’s Resolution–leave comments. I hang my head in shame at my past behavior. I have so much fun reading your chapters. I had read and loved the story during its first appearance, but I so enjoy being reminded of the details and intricacies of the plot. Your interweaving of the past and future story lines is intriguing. The portrayal of Elizabeth’s slow understanding of her feelings about Christina and the consequences of those feelings is heartbreaking, since you have already hinted of the tragedy to follow. I will be reading every chapter. If I slip up with my brand new resolution, you have my permission to rap my knuckles. Repeatedly.

    5. It’s so nice to see a post from you, amazing story you have got there, and it keep us excited and so looking forward for the new one. Thank you so much. Love

    6. How did the Porter name come to the forefront a gain? Somehow Melvin Porter must have been related to the Porters of the past. Can’t wait for the meeting of the now Bette and Tina.

    7. Oh, wait ! I read your last chapter as well, but due to my little Christmas holiday out of town I only read it yesterday and didn’t take time to post a comment since you had already posted an update ( this chapter ) and I’ve only just caught up with everything now. Anyway, let me please apologize for not commenting, I really do love this story. Seriously. This is not only beautiful, but also very thrilling and I love it. HAPPY NEW YEAR B&TF and PPS !
