Chapter 12: Legacy from the past…does it have a future? (Bette and Christina need to talk and Tina opens up to Kit)

    Place: Orange County, CA

    Year: 1885

(Previously) “Alicia,” she finally heard Elizabeth’s weary voice, “Concentrate, I need advice, I need help.”

“Help with what? This is wonderful,” Alicia replied, giving Elizabeth the biggest smile she could muster, “You felt attraction…you kissed…now you go with the flow. How was it, by the way?”

“It was amazing, absolutely amazing,” Elizabeth said dreamily, but quickly her eyes got watery, “But now I feel guilty and afraid. Guilty of doing this behind Daniel’s back and afraid of what it all could cost me and my family’s reputation…if I go with the flow.”

“Did you talk to Christina about it?” Alicia asked, trying to think of a way to help Elizabeth with this situation.

“Not yet, I just couldn’t bring it up right after our wonderful but brief encounter. What should I do?” Elizabeth kept asking questions nervously but Alicia knew that she was talking more to herself.

“Bette,” Alicia said finally, after a brief silent moment, “You are exhausted…me too, this party completely wore me out. How about we both get some rest and sleep on it, and tomorrow will be a new day.”

Elizabeth truly was tired and she found the idea of sleeping refreshing and welcomed. But in spite of her fatigue, she couldn’t sleep mainly due to the visions of her and Christina standing in the rain, all drenched and happy. Elizabeth touched her lips in the darkness, trying to bring back the feeling of softness and moisture, comfort and joy, and with these thoughts she finally drifted off to sleep.

The next day Elizabeth woke up excited to see Christina again and continue with their painting sessions. They easily got back into their friendly banter, laughing and enjoying each other’s company. Christina first tried to talk to Elizabeth about her troubles from the night before, but seeing her happy and joyful, she decided to wait until the right time.

Alicia was helping as usual, engaging in conversations and making them all laugh. Elizabeth was working on several paintings at once and Christina tried to reason with her to work on one at the time, but to no avail.

    1. Hey there! Sorry about missing a comment on the last chapter. I must confess that with Christmas and going away to my family, my return was a bit overbusy. But I read it of course, and thanks so much for posting so soon again. I’m really hooked to this story, and I must admit, intrigued as well. I’m of course looking forward to their meeting, but I’m also curious about the murder mystery, and Christina whereabouts after that… Anyway, I’ll be patient until you take us there! Happy New Year to you, mate. And PPS! K ;)

    2. You are really building the intrigue for this story. You know what they say B&TF…some things are better the second time around! I never saw this the first time, but I’m sure enjoying it now. I can’t wait for the next update!

    3. Whether the story is edited or not, it is still one of my all time favorites. Reading it again is such a wonderful treat, and puts a smile on my face every time. Thank you S. And remember, even if you don’t see a lot of comments, we are still reading…silently, but still reading! Happy New Year!

    4. New Year’s Resolution–leave comments. I hang my head in shame at my past behavior. I have so much fun reading your chapters. I had read and loved the story during its first appearance, but I so enjoy being reminded of the details and intricacies of the plot. Your interweaving of the past and future story lines is intriguing. The portrayal of Elizabeth’s slow understanding of her feelings about Christina and the consequences of those feelings is heartbreaking, since you have already hinted of the tragedy to follow. I will be reading every chapter. If I slip up with my brand new resolution, you have my permission to rap my knuckles. Repeatedly.

    5. It’s so nice to see a post from you, amazing story you have got there, and it keep us excited and so looking forward for the new one. Thank you so much. Love

    6. How did the Porter name come to the forefront a gain? Somehow Melvin Porter must have been related to the Porters of the past. Can’t wait for the meeting of the now Bette and Tina.

    7. Oh, wait ! I read your last chapter as well, but due to my little Christmas holiday out of town I only read it yesterday and didn’t take time to post a comment since you had already posted an update ( this chapter ) and I’ve only just caught up with everything now. Anyway, let me please apologize for not commenting, I really do love this story. Seriously. This is not only beautiful, but also very thrilling and I love it. HAPPY NEW YEAR B&TF and PPS !
