Out of Closet (B&T time-travel romance), Ch. 12
Kit waited in silence until her curiosity prevailed and she asked, “Tina, what’s going on? I think there’s more to your story than making a documentary.”
She stopped, waiting for Tina to calm down. The kind manner, in which Kit was speaking to her, was more than Tina could take and all the feelings of anxiety, frustration, confusion and loneliness that she kept inside for so long finally erupted.
Tina felt the need to share the burden that had been dwelling in her mind for days now since she learned about the woman on her miniature painting and her fate. There were only a few people that Tina trusted explicitly but they were not here. Now, looking into Kit’s worried and sympathetic eyes, Tina realized that she could trust Kit as well, also considering that she was Elizabeth’s great-great-great-grand niece.
Tina told Kit the whole story, everything she discovered so far, the clues, the ideas, the mystery, withholding nothing except her infatuation with Elizabeth. Kit listened with full attention, without any interruptions. Only once she was about to say something when Tina mentioned the initials CK but decided to wait.
Three iced teas and one hour later, Tina finished her story, ending up sitting on a sofa with an expression of complete exhaustion and relief. Kit looked at Tina for a moment, put her drink down on a coffee table and sat down by Tina on the sofa.
“No wonder you had such a reaction to the painting,” Kit said with understanding and respect, “It was amazing actually. I never saw anyone crying from the feeling of admiration and happiness just from seeing the painting or anything for that matter.”
“I’m really happy that you still have it, Kit and that you didn’t…,” Tina stopped, not knowing how much she could say without offending Kit, “…I thought that…well…the rumors…I…”
Kit understood what Tina was trying to say and didn’t let her finish. She covered Tina’s hand with hers and said, “It’s okay, Tina, there was a time in my life that I could have lost everything, not just this painting. We can talk about it, it’s perfectly fine. Even though I’m ashamed of my addictions, it’s still a part of my life. I’m clean and sober now for 5 years, I went through a very intensive 12-step program, and I still go to the AA meetings regularly.”

Hey there! Sorry about missing a comment on the last chapter. I must confess that with Christmas and going away to my family, my return was a bit overbusy. But I read it of course, and thanks so much for posting so soon again. I’m really hooked to this story, and I must admit, intrigued as well. I’m of course looking forward to their meeting, but I’m also curious about the murder mystery, and Christina whereabouts after that… Anyway, I’ll be patient until you take us there! Happy New Year to you, mate. And PPS! K ;)
this is a nice way to start 2009… thank you for the early post… cant wait for tina and bette to ‘sort of meet in chapter 13’ which is the next one yay!
You are really building the intrigue for this story. You know what they say B&TF…some things are better the second time around! I never saw this the first time, but I’m sure enjoying it now. I can’t wait for the next update!
Whether the story is edited or not, it is still one of my all time favorites. Reading it again is such a wonderful treat, and puts a smile on my face every time. Thank you S. And remember, even if you don’t see a lot of comments, we are still reading…silently, but still reading! Happy New Year!
New Year’s Resolution–leave comments. I hang my head in shame at my past behavior. I have so much fun reading your chapters. I had read and loved the story during its first appearance, but I so enjoy being reminded of the details and intricacies of the plot. Your interweaving of the past and future story lines is intriguing. The portrayal of Elizabeth’s slow understanding of her feelings about Christina and the consequences of those feelings is heartbreaking, since you have already hinted of the tragedy to follow. I will be reading every chapter. If I slip up with my brand new resolution, you have my permission to rap my knuckles. Repeatedly.
It’s so nice to see a post from you, amazing story you have got there, and it keep us excited and so looking forward for the new one. Thank you so much. Love
How did the Porter name come to the forefront a gain? Somehow Melvin Porter must have been related to the Porters of the past. Can’t wait for the meeting of the now Bette and Tina.
Oh, wait ! I read your last chapter as well, but due to my little Christmas holiday out of town I only read it yesterday and didn’t take time to post a comment since you had already posted an update ( this chapter ) and I’ve only just caught up with everything now. Anyway, let me please apologize for not commenting, I really do love this story. Seriously. This is not only beautiful, but also very thrilling and I love it. HAPPY NEW YEAR B&TF and PPS !
