Out of Closet (B&T time-travel romance), Ch. 12
Kit stopped for a minute to have another drink and then continued, looking at Tina, “The original will is kept in a deposit box in the bank but I have a copy. My father actually made a copy and then gave it to me when we still had a good relationship. This will is really touching, I mean just listen to what David Palmer Sr. wrote, ‘In memory of my beloved wife Katherine, who departed this earth and went to her creator so early, but not before blessing me with a beautiful son, every child born into the Palmer family should have their middle name as Porter. In addition, to commemorate our blessed union, every first male child should be named David and every first female child should be named Katherine.’”
“Wow,” Tina exclaimed, “This guy must have been passionately in love with his wife. It’s amazing because it’s so rare in our days.”
She made a barely audible sigh, thinking of how screwed up her life was. She had lost her boyfriend who turned out to be the biggest asshole and a criminal. And to make matters worse, she was madly in love with a beautiful but oh so dead woman from the nineteenth century.
“This is not all,” Kit interrupted Tina’s train of thoughts as she continued reading the copy of the will. “Item 1. The painting that my beloved wife Katherine received as a gift from her dear sister Elizabeth Porter, deceased, I bequeath…damn this legal language,” Kit chuckled, “I bequeath to my only son David to keep it in the family as inheritance and personal property forever and for all eternity. This painting is not to be sold, given away, given as a gift, used to pay a debt, used as a wager in gambling games or used in any other action that will result in losing this precious painting. In case any of the above mentioned should happen as a result of deliberate or accidental action on the part of any of the family members, a curse will fall upon this family until the painting is restored to its rightful owners and returned untouched and unchanged.’”
Kit turned another page over and said, “Then the will goes on about the rest of the property and who gets what, which is mainly David. Including the Porter mansion that was left to David Jr. after Melvin and Maxine passed away because he was their only grandchild.”
“Wow,” Tina repeated again, “it’s amazing, I wish my family had a dark secret, mystery murder and a curse.”
“You don’t believe in that stuff, Tina, do you?” Kit asked, surprised.
“Well, of course not,” Tina replied with a slight hesitation, “but it’s just so dark and romantic at the same time, that’s why I think it would be a great script for a movie or even a mini-series.”
“Wait,” Kit said laughing, “I thought the documentary was just an excuse to see the painting?”
“Yes, it was, in the beginning,” Tina said apologetically, “but I think the idea was great and it could work. By the way, what happened to the Porter mansion?”

Hey there! Sorry about missing a comment on the last chapter. I must confess that with Christmas and going away to my family, my return was a bit overbusy. But I read it of course, and thanks so much for posting so soon again. I’m really hooked to this story, and I must admit, intrigued as well. I’m of course looking forward to their meeting, but I’m also curious about the murder mystery, and Christina whereabouts after that… Anyway, I’ll be patient until you take us there! Happy New Year to you, mate. And PPS! K ;)
this is a nice way to start 2009… thank you for the early post… cant wait for tina and bette to ‘sort of meet in chapter 13’ which is the next one yay!
You are really building the intrigue for this story. You know what they say B&TF…some things are better the second time around! I never saw this the first time, but I’m sure enjoying it now. I can’t wait for the next update!
Whether the story is edited or not, it is still one of my all time favorites. Reading it again is such a wonderful treat, and puts a smile on my face every time. Thank you S. And remember, even if you don’t see a lot of comments, we are still reading…silently, but still reading! Happy New Year!
New Year’s Resolution–leave comments. I hang my head in shame at my past behavior. I have so much fun reading your chapters. I had read and loved the story during its first appearance, but I so enjoy being reminded of the details and intricacies of the plot. Your interweaving of the past and future story lines is intriguing. The portrayal of Elizabeth’s slow understanding of her feelings about Christina and the consequences of those feelings is heartbreaking, since you have already hinted of the tragedy to follow. I will be reading every chapter. If I slip up with my brand new resolution, you have my permission to rap my knuckles. Repeatedly.
It’s so nice to see a post from you, amazing story you have got there, and it keep us excited and so looking forward for the new one. Thank you so much. Love
How did the Porter name come to the forefront a gain? Somehow Melvin Porter must have been related to the Porters of the past. Can’t wait for the meeting of the now Bette and Tina.
Oh, wait ! I read your last chapter as well, but due to my little Christmas holiday out of town I only read it yesterday and didn’t take time to post a comment since you had already posted an update ( this chapter ) and I’ve only just caught up with everything now. Anyway, let me please apologize for not commenting, I really do love this story. Seriously. This is not only beautiful, but also very thrilling and I love it. HAPPY NEW YEAR B&TF and PPS !
