As Emily released her tightly wrapped arms from Bette neck, she smiled at hearing the words, “I will, I promise. Bye Bette.”
“Good bye honey, Ill be waiting for that painting you know!”
Emily gave her best smile, her chest puffed out, childly importance filling her that her friend wanted her painting in a very important gallery. She held her hand out to her mothers own hand as she looked over at Tina, “Bye Teeny!”
“Bye honey, it was nice to see you.” Tina then glanced to Jill, “bye Jill, it was nice to meet you.”
“Bye…” Jill glanced over at Bette and smiled, “thank you for taking an interest and spending time talking to Emily”
“Its been my pleasure. Ill see you soon, OK.” Bette replied, seeing a tinge of sadness in the eyes of the childs mother.
Bette and Tina sat in silence as they watched the two retreating blonde figures, both in deep separate thoughts, processing the chance meeting of a five year old and her mother, the meeting of a child who pulled at heart strings in Bette that she thought were long buried, similarities in the innocent words of a child into her own tortured thoughts of dealing with a demanding and possessive father for whom she had always strived for unconditional acceptance.
Bettes thoughts turned to her earlier conversation with Tina and their statements. When she had heard those words, it sent her mind in complete turmoil, how she treated Tina when her father was around, her father, upon in the pedestal she had placed him on, and for what, it was now apparent that those actions of her continually striving for his acceptance were impinging and affecting the relationship with her one and only, the one who never judged her, the one who accepted her as a whole, complete with flaws and impurities, and loved her regardless.
Bette knew she loved her father, but why did that never seem enough, why did she feel like she was always a failure in his eyes, why nothing was ever good enough, it saddened her to think that she had spent her whole life, so far, trying to please the unappeasable, she was a grown woman with an amazing partner and yet when he stepped in front of her everything fell by the wayside, why did she allow that to happen, why did she not take Tina into account when he was around, why did Tina have to conform just because she felt she had to, Tina was an independent woman, who had her own thoughts and views and was free to express them whenever she felt it appropriate.

This is a great fic by a brillant writer. LOVE the communication and the admittance and acknowledgement of fault by both parties, especially Betty, it shows her growth. This is so eloquently written.

I love how you can take simple words and turn them into this flowing story full of love. You have taken this couple from utter despair to the highest mountain and into the sea of delight. I have always loved Bette and Tina together and with the help of your story you have reminded me of the absolute love that a person can have for another. What ever seems to be thrown at them you have allowed them to work throught it and that seems to have brought them closer as a couple. IC and company should take lessons from your story telling. Then maybe they will treat Bette and Tina the way that most of us would love to see them.
Jo, as usual another fantastic chapter. If I remember correctly you left a comment on another author’s chapter calling her an ole slushy romantic. After this chapter I think that would accurately describe you also.

There are some chapters of a story that make your heart beat a little faster….there usually NC17s……this chapter just proves that it doesnt have to be NC anything…..to actually make your heart skip a few beats….no matter how many times you read it….Romance at its best!
