    Drew had found a wonderful vantage point for the parade.  He climbed up the outcropping, stopping as he did to reach out and pull his daughter behind him.  There was no empty space, though, until a young woman saw them and shifted to the left, nudging the boy with her to make some space. 

     

    "Thank you," Drew’s gratitude was obvious.

     

    "After that climb, you two deserved a little space." Bette smiled.

     

    Bette thought for a few moments and tried to look at the man’s face without being obvious.  Finally, convinced that she was right, she asked, "Pardon me, are you Drew Pederson?"

     

    "Yes, I am."

     

    "I am reading your first collection for a class.  It is incredible."  Bette was embarrassed that she wasn’t more articulate.  Drew, though, was thrilled that he had been recognized and was not about to be critical in any way of a fan.

     

    They smiled and waited for the parade to begin.

     

    The viewers positioned on the rock watched as the huge Big Bird balloon was maneuvered  from the side street on to Central Park West,  The flight crew made an excellent turn, but ten minutes later, lost control of the balloon when the wind shifted.  Big Bird veered over the crowd into a large tree inside the park.  As it did so, the watchers on the outcropping dropped down.  Drew covered Jenny with his body until the crew regained control of the helium-filled threat.

    Alice could not bear another minute in hiding and decided that she would prefer Lenore’s wrath to spending another boring moment in her brother’s room.  As she opened the door, it squeaked and she heard Lenore, "Thank you for the divine breakfast.  It was a treat from the gods.  But you are still in the doghouse."

     

    Alice closed the door and sighed.

    As soon as they returned to the hotel room, Sharon parked Howie in front of the television and never let him out of her sight except when she used the bathroom, which she did as quickly as possible.  She wanted to stay in their room and have dinner from room service, but Irwin hoped she would feel safe enough for the special dinner he had planned.

    2. What a pleasant surprise. Doesn’t matter if the story is out of sync with the calendar, you evoke the time anyway. Too bad Jenny couldn’t have inherited a little more sanity from Drew. You made me google McLean, but it was worth it.

    4. What a wonderful chapter with present day events along with past events intermingled within the scope of the post. Will the cast ever remember meeting each other as young teenagers? Can’t wait for the next post to appear for my reading pleasure.
