Bette was awoken from her slumber by a loud pounding sound. She jumped out of bed too fast, causing her to feel dizzy. She stumbled towards the front door.
“Hold on…” Bette yelled to whoever was at the door. She tore open the door.
“T…” Bette gasped.
“Were you sleeping?” Tina asked at the sight of Bette in her robe only barely held together by her left hand, her hair all tousled.
“…no…” Bette lied.
“Sure you were…” Tina smiled before she continued: “we need to talk, Bette…”
“Please don’t phrase it like that….” Bette whispered.
“Ok… can we have a conversation? Tina asked.
Bette nodded and stepped aside.
“Is it okay if I take a quick shower? I really need to get out of this…” Tina asked, gesturing at her tracksuit.
“Of course… you don’t have to ask….” Bette said. Her eyes told Tina all about her fear of the upcoming conversation.
Tina tilted her head to the side, “Bette… I just want to talk this through… don’t look so scared… maybe we could order some takeout and talk while we eat – I’m famished.”
“… I’d like that…. takeout from the Vietnamese place?”
“Sure… that would be great… I’ll be right back…”
They were sitting across from each other at the dining room table. An awkward silence had filled the room. Bette had gotten up twice to adjust the volume on the music playing in the background. She couldn’t decide if it was too loud or too quiet.
“I’m not jealous, Tina…” Bette finally said.
“…. no… I think I jumped to a conclusion on that one… I’m sorry,” Tina said and picked up her wineglass.
“Bette, we can’t risk falling into the same patterns of poor communication… we’ve been playing the guessing game for far too long. I cannot know how you feel when you give me so little to go on… and the conclusions I reach aren’t always the right ones… It is not fair to any of us….” Tina said while looking intently at Bette.
“I know… But you know I’m no good at these conversations…”
“Well, you have to get better at it. And I have to stop taking the full responsibility for putting into words how we’re doing. It has to be YOUR job to let me know what’s on your mind. We can’t rely on me knowing your thoughts,” Tina said holding Bette’s gaze.
“… no, we can’t…”
Tina waited for Bette to gather her thoughts.

Straight to top of the list, and Tina’s number one was just… exquisite. Hm, I wonder if she’ll top Bette when she goes through the rest of the list? And yeah, anker, I meant to say it *just like that*. ;) They’ll have to keep talking to each other though, about children, about what they’re feeling, and about everything else. Great conversation…hmmm 9 p.m. came a bit fast for me here!!!!! but bring on T’s top 20….yup, I’m on the mend…combination of virus and February being a month I’d prefer to see drop off the calendar…but ten more days and it’s over until 2008!!! ouch!!!! sorry u’ve got nothing to take up your weekend but writing for us BUT u made me happy with this ‘fix-up’, I hate it when THEY fight altho ep6 was a good one…both of ’em in full flight…SEXY!!!!!

Ouch! MY dream vs. OUR dream… how true to life is that concept?! I was a little worried at the beginning of the chapter, but three cheers to Tina for holding it together and bringing them back around to what’s important. Great transitional writing, Anker!
