A Day in the Life, Part 1 of 3

Elise brushed in front of her and held the front door open for Bette. Bette tried to think of a conciliatory parting remark. Elise was a beautiful woman, good-looking enough to be worth taking another shot.

    “Listen, Elise –”

    “Please go.”

Bette rolled her eyes. She started out the door and then turned back. “I wouldn’t spread this story around, if I were you,” Bette said. “If you do? I’ll just have to make it known that you were so pathetic in bed you put me to sleep.”

Elise narrowed her eyes and Bette sauntered off, without looking back. She winced as the door slammed behind her and held her head. She pressed the down button in front of the elevator frantically and stepped inside. Her day was off to an amazing start.

She pulled out her compact mirror out of her bag and looked at her face. Not too bad. She quickly wiped at a smudge of mascara and ran a hand through her hair. She lamented that she was so clearly doing a walk of shame, still dressed in last night’s clothes, as she stepped out into the humid Los Angeles morning. The sun was shining, and that lifted her mood, just a little.

Bette looked up and down the street, trying to get her bearings. She didn’t recognize anything. Luckily, this apartment building was only a block or two away from what looked like a busy street she could see in the distance. What she really wanted now, though, was a bathroom. She started walking, and when she made it to the street with the most activity she spotted one of those self-consciously retro diners. Perfect.

She went in and went right up to the counter. “Can I get a coffee?”

    “Sure, hon.”

Bette sat down on a stool and waited. The waitress returned. “Where’s the restroom?” she asked the waitress when she returned with Bette’s coffee.

“Just over there, hon.” The waitress nodded across the diner.

Bette slid off her stool and went in, taking the time to run a couple of paper towels under the cold water and press them to her forehead. It actually helped with her headache. She pulled her appearance together as best she could and went back to the counter. As she settled on the stool, a man a few stools down the counter tried to catch her eye and smiled. Bette wasn’t in the mood.

    1. Yeah, you’re back!!! I can already feel the Chemistry between the 2. Well done!Ok…do tell, but are you “tabasco over eggs” or “ketchup over eggs?” :)It’s so crackin me up…I travel for business…on the road, I do tabasco, but when I come home, it’s ketchup. I was crackin up over your analogy. Can’t wait for part deux. Thank you again!!!!! This one is fun!

    2. O’malley, despite the thousands of Tibette stories that have been written to date, you are still able to find a refreshing Tibette beginning! This chapter was fabulous. I can’t wait for part 2. PPS!
