A Day in the Life, Part 1 of 3

It wasn’t that hook-ups were all that she wanted, but she’d become deft at the art of the quick break-up. She never saw any one woman more than a few times. Bette felt – no, she knew – that she would change that and settle down. If she ever met the right woman. Which she hadn’t, yet.

    “Excuse me.”

Bette turned her head, expecting the waitress. It was not the waitress. A very curvaceous blonde was standing in front of her.

    “You’re in my booth.”

“Am I?” Bette took another sip of coffee, using the raised cup to shield her surreptitious scanning, and waited for the blonde to continue.

After a moment, the woman laughed to herself and realized Bette wasn’t moving. The blonde turned away, muttering something that Bette couldn’t hear, and sat down at a table close to the booth.

The waitress appeared, holding a cup on one hand that she set in front of the woman whose booth Bette had apparently usurped, and a plate with Bette’s eggs that she set down in front of Bette. “I’ll bring you your usual, hon,” the waitress said, addressing the blonde.

    “Thanks.”

Bette looked down at her food. It wasn’t the most appetizing breakfast she’d ever been served. She picked up her fork and decided to make the best of it. Fried food always helped with her hangovers.

She put some pepper on her eggs and realized with dismay that there was no tabasco sauce at her booth, only ketchup. She glanced at the table where the blonde woman was sitting, reading The Times.

    “Excuse me,” Bette said.

The woman looked up from her paper.

“May I have the hot sauce?”

The woman handed it over, leaning across as Bette did.

“Thank you,” Bette said, accepting the bottle. She stole another look as the woman settled back down with her paper. She was very pretty, in a wholesome sort of way.

“You put hot sauce on your eggs?” A polite voice enquired. Bette looked up and gave a little smile.

“Hot sauce and only hot sauce. Why? Do you put ketchup?”

Well done!Ok…do tell, but are you “tabasco over eggs” or “ketchup over eggs?” :)It’s so crackin me up…I travel for business…on the road, I do tabasco, but when I come home, it’s ketchup.
