A Day in the Life, Part 1 of 3

The woman crossed her arms. “We met last night. At the benefit?”

Benefit… that’s right. Bette had gone to a party for the Los Angeles Artists’ Association, a charity event to raise money for art programs at under-funded high schools in the city.

“Oh yeah…” Bette shook out her hair and swung her legs out of bed. She was still partially dressed, underwear, blouse and bra still on. Her skirt was a crumpled heap on the floor beside the bed and her heels were nearby. Her handbag was there too.

Bette stood up and smoothed her blouse, pulling on her skirt and zipping it up, wincing. Why was she so stiff? She ought to have taken it easy on the free champagne last night. She was maybe getting too old for this. The thought horrified her. She cast it aside, and stepped into her heels.

“I’m Elise,” the woman continued. “You picked me up and we came back here.”

“Right. Sorry, Elise. I had a bit too much last night, obviously.”

Elise snorted. “I’ll say you did. You came in, partially disrobed, collapsed on the bed and fell asleep five minutes later. You were totally dead to the world… and you hogged the covers.” Elise smirked. “Forgive me for saying so, but your rep far exceeded the actual experience.”

Bette felt like laughing but held it in. “Well. You know how it is. I was just overtired, I guess. I apologize for hogging the covers. And as far as my rep…” she took a few steps closer, wobbling a bit in her heels, “Why don’t you let me show you how I got it, sometime?”

“I don’t think so,” Elise said coldly. “I’m going to be late for work. Can I call you a cab?” she repeated, more pointedly this time.

“No.” Rebuffed, Bette backtracked and picked up her handbag from there it lay on the floor. “Goodbye.” she said shortly. What a bitch. Bette couldn’t really blame her though. She would have treated any drunken, failed one-night stand the same way in the morning. Bette gathered what remained of her dignity together and made for the front door, Elise hot on her heels. Bette had wanted to use the bathroom, but she wasn’t going to spend a moment more in this apartment than she had to.

Well done!Ok…do tell, but are you “tabasco over eggs” or “ketchup over eggs?” :)It’s so crackin me up…I travel for business…on the road, I do tabasco, but when I come home, it’s ketchup.
