Ever the Same – (Chapter: Ch. 7: Dinner at Spencer’s)

    "Amen," the rest echoed.

Spencer gave Ashley’s hand a small squeeze before releasing it, receiving a smile from the brunette. The blonde put her hand over on side of her mouth, so that only Ashley could see was she was saying as she mouthed "Bullshit," to her. Ashley snickered in response as she nodded her head in agreement.

"Well, everyone dig in." Arthur said, happily. "Tonight we have my special meatloaf." he said, seeming quite proud of himself.

Everyone dug in, as the conversation started flowing.

"So, have you talked to Madison, at all, since the break-up?" Clay asked Glen, genuinely interested.

"Sorry, I’m unavailable for comment." Glen said, cockily as he stuffed his face with a fork full of meatloaf. "Uck, it’s missing something. Hey, Spence, you can walk. Go get the ketchup."

Spencer narrowed her eyes at her brother, "Sorry, I’m unavailable for condiment." she smirked, receiving laughter from the lot.

"Nice one," Arthur offered, but then he nodded with his head over to the refrigerator.

Spencer rolled her eyes and stood.

"So, did Clay tell you guys that he aced another one of Quigley’s exams?" Chelsea chirped.

"Oh, did you Clay?" Paula beamed, "That’s great!"

"It was nothing." he said simply, "But as long as we’re telling some awesome news…some of Chelsea’s paintings have been put into a gallery."

"Seriously?" Ashley asked, "Dude, that’s awesome! See, art’s definitely the way to go!"

"Pfft, you just say that because you’re gonna grow up to be like your father," Spencer stated matter-of-factly.

"Well, yeah. That minus the guitar. I am so going to be a lead vocalist in a band, one day. I can see it now," Ashley drew the picture in front of her with her hands for extra emphasis.

"Way to aim high, Ash." Arthur said with a smile.

"Yup. That’s what Dad always says. ‘Aim high or don’t aim at all.’ I swear that man could be a poet." Ashley joked as everyone laughed.

"Hey, Spence," Chelsea started, "What do you plan on doing with your life? I mean, Ashley and I are probably going to major in the arts. Clay’s gonna be…well a genius." chuckles erupted from everyone. "And when Glen gets better he’s gonna be a basketball star. We’ve all got it pretty much figured out. What about you?"
