    A Vampire's Lament – (Chapter: 7-Confrontation)

Spencer’s face was cemented with fright but she did not dare to say a thing after he was explaining Carmen’s suspicious involvement. I couldn’t help but explore her mind and emotions while Kyla was massaging Aiden’s big, empty head.

After all those withdrawals from Carmen, Spencer finally understood why. But the lies and the excuses she made to not be with her, it upset Spencer so very much that she begun to cry a little.

"Carmen was talking about how a war was brewing between the immortals and the werewolves. She told us it was necessary for her to recruit the best and apparently, she struck gold with all the jocks at our school." Aiden finally said after a moment’s silence and I was glad his voice broke through the room.

Spencer’s thoughts were depressing me a bit.

"Why is there a war going to break out? We have a right to not participate since we have done no wrong." Kyla stated, all of our eyes moving away from Aiden to her back and fourth. Aiden was saddened that he was surrounded by ignorant immortals but he knew it wasn’t our fault…exactly.

"There’s this brilliant scientist who’s starting shit with the vampires because his past was haunted with a lot of them murdering his family members. He’s a hybrid now, actually, but he mostly carries werewolf-like characteristics." My heart was failing, even though it’s already dead, and confusion was becoming a burden due to the trend of ambiguity falling upon us.

"How…What…Why?" I was struggling to form a question but he seemed to understand where I was going.

"Because he has those powerful feelings immortals have, he felt the connection between you and Spencer. He built this weapon awhile ago to get rid of the vampires for good but now that he knows that you two pose a threat to him, he wants to finish perfecting his weapon before he hunts you down." Aiden said, choking a bit after his sentence was complete.

He was staring at the ground because he had felt guilty for revealing some dark secret truths to his best friend.

"If Carmen was a werewolf, why didn’t she try attacking me if she knew I made a connection with Ashley?" Spencer finally asked, her emotions were dulled after the heartbreaking news. Aiden wanted to answer but shrugged in honesty. I could tell that he couldn’t say anymore than what he knew so he replied with body language.
