I found a somewhat quiet area and pulled my phone out. This very moment gave me pause to appreciate Bette’s declaration the other night. I was freely able to call her and I did. I needed to hear her voice.

Just hearing her voice made me feel better. I told her about the production and she uttered the appropriate words to me. I also told her about Shana and knew that she was not handling that news well. I made her promise me that she would not allow it to ruin her day and I believed her when she told me that she wouldn’t. The old Bette would have been threatening to jump a flight and come to rescue me. This Bette was calm. In my mood today, rescuing is the last thing that I would need. We only spoke briefly but that phone call probably saved someone their job today.

It was hell knowing that things were so bad for Tina and she was so far away. I had budget meetings of my own to attend to and focused on my tasks while waiting to hear from her. I figured that she may not have the ability to call me or send  a text so when I received a text about 3 hours later I was surprised.

Not going well. Just fired the director. Asshole was as high as a kite. So much for rehab. Gotta go beg, borrow and steal to get someone to take over here. Will try my damnedest to get a bedtime call to Angie. May be late before I’m able to talk to you.

I guess I really don’t know what all goes into her job. This sounds like a bad day only getting worse.

I will try calling you when I pick Angie up so you can say hi to her. Don’t worry about the rest. Sorry things are so bad. Take care of yourself and don’t forget to eat.

I finished up my work and made my way to the daycare. I loved being able to leave work when normal people did. Angie and I headed home and I called Kit to make sure that she still planned on coming over for dinner. We agreed on pizza. Angie wanted to go swimming so we would do that. I tried Tina’s phone but it went straight to voice mail. Angie and I jumped in the pool and had a great time. When we got out, we called the order for pizza and waited for Kit to arrive. She came bearing torte for dessert so of course, we welcomed her.
