    Window of Opportunity

    Chapter 18

    Previously:

We finished our lunch talking about Angie and her antics. When we got back to the office I did some work but it was hard to concentrate. I wanted to call Tina but wanted to give her the space she needed. When I received the text message from her, I smiled. Any type of communication was good from her. I sent a text back, packed up my things and left to pick Angie up. For once, Monday was a really good day.

    Bette

Angie and I were up and out of the house early the next morning. She wanted to talk to Mommy, as did I, and didn’t understand that Mommy was not available. I thought that maybe some time with Auntie Kit would make up for it and it did. She was in heaven and readily accepted the strawberry smoothie that Kit offered her.

Shane again was the only one there. Alice must really be busy or having to make up work that she’s slacked off on because she again was not there. Angie and I joined Shane who was in a much better place than she had been yesterday.

    “Morning Bette. Hey Angel.”

Angie waved and smiled. She handed me her cup and walked over to Shane planting a big kiss on her cheek.

“That helps me even more than coffee. Thanks Angel.”

I helped her up on a booster seat and she tuned us out as she colored and sipped on her smoothie. I sat drinking my coffee going over my schedule on my Blackberry. Shane waited until she caught my eye.

“You and Tina were looking pretty cozy yesterday. Where is she this morning?”

“Cozy? We were just having breakfast. I’m surprised you noticed. You looked like you had a rough night. Tina left for Santa Fe this morning to take care of some on site issues.”

“Yeah, I was a bit out of it yesterday. I think I jumped back on the wagon a little too quickly. Don’t try to change the subject. Yes, cozy.”

“Shane, you know how I feel. There is nothing to tell. I guess she feels ok being here again and she and Angie showed up. I didn’t know they were coming. We shared breakfast.”

    1. Wow! I’m still catching my breath. Loved the update! Bette is being so tremendously supportive of Tina — sending pictures of Angelica to calm rattled and overworked nerves was such a thoughtful gesture. Bette appears to have really learned patience — I hope it lasts. Looking forward to your next post! Thanks for posting so quickly.
