“She doesn’t need to. Even a blind man could see how she feels about you.”
“She has never spoken about you but you seem to be a close friend. Can you tell me what’s going on?”
“I don’t think it’s my place to tell. Just trust her, she’s only trying to protect you.”
“Protect me? From what?”
James realized he had revealed a bit too much.
“Please Bette,” he pleaded.
“Tina told me you don’t bite. Did she happen to mention that I do?”
“No, but she did say something about how your bark was worse than your bite.”
Bette giggled. “I like you, even with those sideburns”
James pulled on the brakes suddenly as he saw the red-light a bit too late. A large manila folder slipped from under the passenger seat and nudged Bette on her foot. She cursed James and looked down, picking up the folder even as James apologized for his imperfect driving.
She opened and stared at the photos of her and Tina, lips locked, arms around each other, in an obviously intimate moment.
James cursed as he tried to retrieve the folder from her hands but Bette waved him off.
“What is this?” She was giving James a death-stare.
James swallowed. Maybe Tina was wrong; Bette did seem like the type who would bite.
“Photos…” he replied meekly, suddenly losing his voice.
“I can see these are photos. Who took them and why?”
“They aren’t real…”
Bette took a closer look at the photos one by one. “That still doesn’t answer the why.” Her voice was low and dangerous.
“Helena…”
Bette looked at him with disbelief written all over her face.
“What? WHY? No way, sure she is creepy, but Helena is a great supporter of my work, I have known her for years…”
“She wants Alice…”
“Excuse me?” She didn’t know whether to laugh or shout angrily.
“That’s all I can say for now. She wants Alice. This was supposed to serve as proof of that you were being unfaithful. Proof that she was going to show Alice when she got back.”
“No way…”
Alright Porter, not the unfaithful part but the Helena being a psycho, back-stabbing bitch one. Her mind raced from one conclusion to another and then it struck her.

ha ha Mav 2 things #1 gay-jacket OMG kill me….. #2 I totally agree with your statement at the beginning of your story… Good for you. Sometimes following your heart leads us into trouble but it sure doesn’t stop us going there. Right or wrong is a hard one I always say….. great post!!
Oh and by the way… Great author’s note! People are free to like or dislike a story, and yes, sometimes people can be disappointed with a twist or the direction that the story takes, but you know what?… THEIR problem, not yours! When an author takes us on a journey, they decide of the itinerary. If whoever is not happy is free to get off the car!…
I always love how authors use James in their stories, and I just adore him in yours… Well done! Now, it seems that Tina knows everything there is to know about Helena’s scheme… The question is, is she gonna succeed in unveiling her evil streak? I can’t help but think that even so (and I hope she will), there are still a lot of obstacles for our girls to overcome before they can find their way to each other… If they ever… But I trust the vines… Oh shiut, wrong story! ;) K
I must learn not to read new chapters from you before I head off to work. They tend to stick with me all day and I have to fight the urge to re-read them numerous times to savor all the drama/intrigue/love/hate/mystery. Adore the flashbacks – they’re slowly piecing together an incredible story. I’m with beachlife – I will continue to be your faithful follower. Cheers – LG.
Where’s Bette going? I hope it’s not chez Peabody. I know Tina wants more proof, but if she can’t get it, will she cease and desist whatever she’s going and tell Bette all of what’s going on? And what’s the “inevitable” you’re referring to? I’m really, really hoping there isn’t some horrid, horrid thing about to happen. Please post soon, I’ve got too many questions, not enough answers…. Thanks for the chapter.
This chapter is so well written and very close to the end. I have missed them together in your beautiful story, the closeness they share, and the easiness they spend their time together with. It’s so heart warming and perfect, you are as you said you were M, you write the two of them so well, and I think the reason is, you think and feel love when you write them, it comes from the heart and there is no better place to write anything from. You know, the chapter that I don’t see them sharing each other’s company in is cold one, cause there is no one in this story other than them that has the love and sensitivity that they have, even though they are the ones who are growing close to having another involvement outside of their marriage (which I don’t think will happen till they let the other people in this equation know of their intentions). I hope we can see them resolve whatever they have between them in the next chapter and spend a moment if not some time sharing their love and clearing the air. Gay jacket, that’s a good one. So James is the bartender, what the heck did he put in her drinks. Serves her right. Hope Tina finds what she is looking for, and hope Hel does not wake up and catch her snooping. Great update to this story and I still love it. If someone does not particularly like a story, they have the option not to read it. Keep writing, we love it. Can hardly wait for the next chapter. PPS
Tina needs to get Helena to talk more and record it. Bette does deserve what Helena has done to her Pay back is hell. thanks Dont let anyone stop you from writting, them they win
OK, so now that I’ve read all the comments above, what else is left to say ?… I too love your fabulous writing and I love this story. It’s both enchanting and riveting. And of course I’m with everybody who encouraged you to post as soon as you can. This is just too addictive. Can’t wait for more. Thank you so much for sharing your talent with us, Mav’ ( if you don’t mind me calling you so ). And if I may be so bold as to give you some advice, just ignore the comments you don’t appreciate. Don’t let them get to you.
