See What a Fool I’ve Been – part 5 and 6
PART 5
“I think you should go back to your own room…” I murmur against her lips for the ten-thousandth time in the last couple of hours.
“Oh yeah?” she answers with her low, throaty voice.
“Yeah…” I whisper, “…I think you should go back to your room now… and get dressed…”.
“But it feels so good being naked in this bed with you…” she argues while her hands slip all along my body. I feel her everywhere.
“It feels great but we should stop for a while… Remember? We have that little thing planned…”
Shane strokes my hair, gently.
“Oh you’re right… That wedding thing…”, and she’s smiling against my skin.
“Exactly… That little wedding thing…” I chuckle, while shivers go down my spine.
Finally, she raises on her elbows and stares at me, transfixed.
“What?” I ask sweetly, caressing her collarbone.
She blushes a little.
“Nothin’… I just… I just feel so lucky”.
“You’ve been lucky practically all day… and I bet you’ll be even luckier tonight, after the ceremony… But in three hours we’re going to be at the chapel… And if you don’t want to see a messy bride, I think you’d better go prepare yourself and let me get dressed and all… and, by the way, my mother and company will be here in less than thirty minutes…” I say as seriously as I can, even if my eyes keep smiling at hers.
Shane inhales and exhales deeply.
“You’re right. I am gonna go”.
When Shane closes the door behind her back and I’m finally by myself, I relax a minute, still laying on the bed. This bed that has been the witness of long, intense, amazing hours of making up. Shane’s scent is everywhere on the sheets, on the pillows, on my skin. Shane’s emotional walls are invisible, but I can feel them in pieces all around this bed, like this perpetual making love and talking and kissing and caressing and staring at each other has been their ultimate death sentence.
It’s 4 p.m.
Our wedding is set at 7 p.m.
Shane and I have spent the last four hours locked in my room, apparently having sex. But the truth is that we’ve never communicated like this before. Shane is usually silent, in bed. She let her body speak, not her soul.
But today everything has been different.
Every kiss had the company of a previous unexpressed feeling. Every caress has been given with the confession of a fear, of a doubt. Every orgasm has been followed by endless talks about hope, past, present, future, about revelations of any kind.
And I think we are finally ready.
I think that, for the first time since the beginning of our personal fights, we are really connected again. Totally connected.
Totally accomplices.
Totally in love.
