Out of Closet (B&T time-travel romance), Ch. 12

The first couple of weeks of October went by quickly with all the preparations for the festival, getting more art supplies, and choosing more subjects for her paintings.

As the time drew closer, everyone decided to take a little break. Melvin and Maxine left for New York for a grand opening of ‘Carmen’ at the Metropolitan Opera. Katie and David went with them as a part of their honeymoon trip and a wedding present. Katie had actually auditioned for the Metropolitan Opera and was invited to be part of the cast of ‘Carmen’. She had to decline the invitation because of her upcoming wedding, even though she was deeply saddened by missing such a great opportunity.

Elizabeth decided to stay home. She was still working on her paintings and she needed more time. She loved opera but the also wanted more time with Christina, knowing that after the art festival it might come to an end.

It was a beautiful October morning, with Indian summer settling in and bringing warm, quiet, and hazy weather. The air was perfectly dormant and everything around was in absolute stillness, as if Nature, after her energetic escapades during the summer, was now at perfect rest.

Elizabeth was sitting in front of the canvas with the outlines of Maxine Porter’s face. She was determined to finish the portrait of her mother but lately it had been hard for her to concentrate. Her feelings for Christina were getting stronger but neither of them had the courage to bring it up. They tried to justify it by an excuse of being busy with the paintings but in reality they were both afraid to move further than the first kiss, not really knowing what to do.

Elizabeth was wearing her favorite red velvet dress that drew attention to her olive skin. She knew that Christina also liked that dress and she had worn it at least three times this week. She tied up her curls under a white silk ribbon to keep them from getting into her eyes.

The thoughts of Christina kept invading her mind and Elizabeth couldn’t paint, instead playing with the simple silver ring that was on her right hand. It was a gift from her father when she turned 18 and she always cherished it because of its simplicity and beauty. In fact, that was the only present she got from him personally. Melvin had been absent a lot when Elizabeth was growing up and a lot of presents were delivered by the messengers, while he was away.

    1. Hey there! Sorry about missing a comment on the last chapter. I must confess that with Christmas and going away to my family, my return was a bit overbusy. But I read it of course, and thanks so much for posting so soon again. I’m really hooked to this story, and I must admit, intrigued as well. I’m of course looking forward to their meeting, but I’m also curious about the murder mystery, and Christina whereabouts after that… Anyway, I’ll be patient until you take us there! Happy New Year to you, mate. And PPS! K ;)

    2. You are really building the intrigue for this story. You know what they say B&TF…some things are better the second time around! I never saw this the first time, but I’m sure enjoying it now. I can’t wait for the next update!

    3. Whether the story is edited or not, it is still one of my all time favorites. Reading it again is such a wonderful treat, and puts a smile on my face every time. Thank you S. And remember, even if you don’t see a lot of comments, we are still reading…silently, but still reading! Happy New Year!

    4. New Year’s Resolution–leave comments. I hang my head in shame at my past behavior. I have so much fun reading your chapters. I had read and loved the story during its first appearance, but I so enjoy being reminded of the details and intricacies of the plot. Your interweaving of the past and future story lines is intriguing. The portrayal of Elizabeth’s slow understanding of her feelings about Christina and the consequences of those feelings is heartbreaking, since you have already hinted of the tragedy to follow. I will be reading every chapter. If I slip up with my brand new resolution, you have my permission to rap my knuckles. Repeatedly.

    5. It’s so nice to see a post from you, amazing story you have got there, and it keep us excited and so looking forward for the new one. Thank you so much. Love

    6. How did the Porter name come to the forefront a gain? Somehow Melvin Porter must have been related to the Porters of the past. Can’t wait for the meeting of the now Bette and Tina.

    7. Oh, wait ! I read your last chapter as well, but due to my little Christmas holiday out of town I only read it yesterday and didn’t take time to post a comment since you had already posted an update ( this chapter ) and I’ve only just caught up with everything now. Anyway, let me please apologize for not commenting, I really do love this story. Seriously. This is not only beautiful, but also very thrilling and I love it. HAPPY NEW YEAR B&TF and PPS !
