“I can’t answer that for you baby sis. Maybe you should have asked him.”
“I did.”
“What did he say?”
“He said I wouldn’t understand. When I asked him to give me a chance to try he said I would have had to have experienced the bond of marriage to appreciate how much he hurt my mother.”
“What the hell did he think that you and Tina have if not a marriage? Even before gay marriages became legal in this state you two had a marriage. That girl hurt as much as any heterosexual wife who finds out her husband is cheating. He’s got one hell of a nerve even saying that considering he never respected the sanctity of marriage. He hurt my mother with his affairs. He hurt your mother with his affairs and he kept on having them. I mean you saw what your affair did to Tina; could you consciously ever hurt her like that again?”
“I would kill myself first before I put Tina through anything like that again.”
“And being the ‘other woman’ is no picnic either baby sis. I’ve been there. The family of the cheater aren’t the only ones getting hurt but daddy didn’t give a shit about that either. Do you remember how accepting he was of my affair with Benjamin? How he told me I should go after what I wanted with total disregard for all the other people involved?”
Melvin: [to Kit] And you: if you think Benjamin is gonna leave his family for you—
Kit: I don’t, Daddy.
Melvin: Whaddya mean, you don’t?
Kit: I wouldn’t do that to another man’s wife.
Melvin: It’s human nature to pursue one’s happiness over someone else’s misery.
Kit: Not always, Daddy. After her mother stole you from my mother, you fell in love with someone
else, didn’t you, Daddy?
Melvin: That doesn’t matter.

When Bette and Kit finally got back to the car Greg was fiddling with Melvin’s antique 18K gold Rolex pocket watch. It was easily worth $10,000 but Bette had no qualms about giving it to Greg. As a matter of fact she’d allowed Greg his pick of Melvin’s jewelry, autographed sports memorabilia, coin and stamp collection and several antique clocks, lamps, a record player, vinyl records, 8 track and cassette player and a variety of small pieces of furniture and electronics.

Hmm, what the hell did Melvin do to make Maxime leave Bette at such a young age. He had a lot off power, but what ever it was, she could have reached out later to Bette.
I am having a little trouble to understand what her reason was to leave her child and ultimate started a new family and didn’t mention Bette in both of her wills, she claimed to love Bette, but she never aknowledged her, like she didn’t excisted at all. Strange, however i hope you can shine light on it.

Bibi28. Maxine didn’t start a new family. Both letters are written to Bette. There is no will so I am a little confused by your comment. You will learn more about why Maxine left but be assured like she said in letter, she had every intention of coming back for Bette.

Subconsciously BETTE feels a connection to GREG so she goes with COLE,still don’t see either one being the donor though.Whatever the reason MAXINE left,she never contacted BETTE even as she grew older is hard to imagine but it did happen so we wait to find out why.COLE calmed her but TINA slayed the doubts and hurt in the way BETTE needed.thanks

he made any threats to ward Maxine.
