    Jenny thought for a moment, "All right."

    Russ ignored the phone that kept ringing, certain that it was some drunken friend wanting to weep about a lost love.

     

    Each time, the phone rang at least ten times. It would pause for less than a minute and then a new call would begin.

     

    He gave up and grabbed the receiver.  "What the fuck is wrong with you?" 

     

    "Russ?"

     

    He shot awake, "Gwen?"

     

    "What did you do?"

     

    "What?"

     

    "What did you say to Tina?"

     

    "Did something happen to Tina?"

     

    "She left a note saying she was going to visit you.  She’s on a bus to New York."

     

    "She’s taking a bus here?"

     

    "Greyhound.  It gets there at 10:15."

     

    "This morning?"

     

    "Yes," Gwen replied angrily.  "What did you say to her?"

     

    "Nothing, Gwen. Nothing."

     

    "Then why would she do this?"

     

    "I don’t know." But, actually, he thought he did, and he cursed Laurence.

    Shane opened the bedroom door as quietly as she could.  As she did, she heard her mother roar.

     

    "Hutchoooooooo."

     

    "Hutchoooooo."

     

    "Hutchoooo."

     

    "Mom?"

     

    "Shaney, I have a bad cold.  Don’t get too close."

     

    "I’ll be careful.  Is there anything I can get you?"

     

    "Could you see if we have any Tylenol?  It would be above the sink."

     

    Shane ran out of the room.  She found some and brought a glass of water and two pills to her mother.  She then thought about what her mother did for her when she was sick.  She searched for tissues.  When she didn’t find any, she brought a roll of bathroom tissue to place on the nightstand.  She found some juice and left it on the nightstand next to the water and makeshift tissues.

     

    Shane went to the room’s one window and, using all of her strength, opened it a crack, "A little fresh air will be good for you.  I’ll close it in a few minutes." 

     

    Shane folded her blanket and brought it from the couch to the bedroom, where she placed it beside her mother, "In case you get cold."

    2. What a pleasant surprise. Doesn’t matter if the story is out of sync with the calendar, you evoke the time anyway. Too bad Jenny couldn’t have inherited a little more sanity from Drew. You made me google McLean, but it was worth it.

    4. What a wonderful chapter with present day events along with past events intermingled within the scope of the post. Will the cast ever remember meeting each other as young teenagers? Can’t wait for the next post to appear for my reading pleasure.
