It was one of those hot, quiet summer nights without the slightest breeze to cool you off. When they reached Tina’s front door, they turned towards each other. Bette felt tongue-tied, something she was quite unfamiliar with. Tina stood in front of her smiling sweetly, looking up into her eyes.
“Do you wanna sit down with me for a little while before we say goodnight? There’s a bench right here…” Tina asked and gestured towards the bench to the left of the main entrance.
“I’d love to sit down with you…” Bette smiled, relieved that she didn’t have to let Tina go just yet.
Tina sat down first and Bette followed, leaving distance between them not to make Tina feel uncomfortable. Tina looked down at the space between them with a surprised expression on her face.
“Why are you sitting all the way over there?” Tina quietly asked, looking out into the street.
“Tina, you do know that I’m gay, right? I don’t want to make you feel uncomfortable. I have to admit that you are the most intriguing woman I have ever met… but I also realize that you’re probably not interested in me romantically… you being with Eric and all. That’s why I’m sitting all the way over here….” Bette said biting her lip.
Tina was silent for a while before she answered. “Bette, I’m not gay… or rather I haven’t thought of myself in that way before I met you. I don’t know what it is you’re doing to me… but I feel like doing things, I never wanted to do before…. and those ‘things’ are pretty gay. So who knows… maybe I am…?” Tina said and turned her head to face Bette.
A big smile crossed Bette’s face. She turned her body towards Tina. She placed both of her hands around Tina’s right hand. They looked each other straight in the face.
“Could you tell me about some of those gay things you feel like doing?” Bette asked with an arch smile.
“Maybe you could kiss me while I think about it?” Tina smiled right back at her.
Bette looked at her for a little while before she slowly leant in. Bette saw Tina close her eyes in anticipation of the kiss. Their hands entwined and their lips met in a tender kiss.
Bette pulled back slightly and looked at Tina with an inquiring look on her face. Tina gradually opened her eyes and her lips separated lightly. Bette put her hand on Tina cheek and kissed her again. This time there was more force behind the kiss. Their lips separated and their tongues met in a soft and playful caress. Without knowing Tina put her hand on Bette’s thigh. Neither of them wanted the kiss to end. For a moment Tina wondered if she was fainting, cause her world was spinning and she saw light and colors behind her eyelids. But neither of them fainted. They let go once again and pulled back just enough for them to focus on each other.
