The next thing Kit saw was her father walking into her office.
“I would hope that a visit from your father would merit some importance.”
Kit jumped up, “Daddy! What are you doing here?”
“I was hoping you had a moment for a visit.”
“Of course daddy come in…lets sit down. Do you want something to eat or drink?”
“Maybe later Katie.”
“Alright well I’m guessing you’re in town for Bette’s gallery opening. Have you seen her?”
“I have, in fact I saw her just last night.”
Kit heard a change in Melvin’s tone. “Did you…” Kit figured that Bette must have told her father about Tina and Eli. “…so did you have a nice talk?”
“We did. Your sister had quite a bit to say.”
“So it’s safe to assume that she told you about Tina and Eli.”
“Yes it is.”
Kit hated when her father wasn’t being straightforward, especially when it was about something important. Although a lot of times when he spoke his mind he tended to be very judgmental. “You want to talk about it?”
Melvin looked up at his daughter. He had been at odds with her for most of her adult life; it had only been recently that their relationship was strengthened. Oddly enough it was during the period of time that Bette was falling apart. Melvin was at a loss when he saw that his pride and joy was in such a state of despair. Melvin saw that the spark in Bette’s eyes was missing. But he saw it shinning brighter then ever when he spoke to Bette last night.
“Elizabeth seemed very happy at least she did when she wasn’t giving me ultimatums.”
Kit chuckled, while Melvin gave her a disapproving look. “Did my baby sis lay down the law?”
“Katie this isn’t funny.”
“I’m sorry daddy. So what did Bette tell you?”
“She told me that if I don’t treat Tina and Eli like family that I’d no longer be welcomed in her life.”
Kit was impressed, Bette had always been a daddy’s girl and she didn’t know if she had it in her to stand up to their father. Then again Kit knew Bette would do anything to keep Tina and Eli in her life.

I was so happy to see you post…then I saw 6 pages I was like yeah! Melvin is coming around, I am glad Bette is not making it easy for him. He helped put a strain on their marriage all those years ago and he needs to own up to that. I am glad Bette is so protective of her family. Please post soon.

Yeah, Bette held her ground and again relayed the message that she was not going to tolerate his behavior towards Tina. Tina has finally become the equal to Bette in all aspects of Bette’s life. Loved how Eli went toe to toe with Melvin and won.
a very good chapter, i like the fact that Bette protect her family but Eli is such a charming boy and he will win the Melvin’s heart like he did with the others people. i really want to read about the openning and some love time i can’t wait for the next chapter!

The way you have developed Eli is absolutely wonderful, you hve made him such a great child and everyone, and I mean everyone loves him to pieces. Even old Melvin seems to like him. So happy that Bette had the gonads to stand up to her father and happy also that Kit gave him a bit of advice on that subject as well. Can hardly wait for the next episode in this story. LOVE, ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS STORY. Thanks.

Everytime I see a post from you, I get a big goofy smile on my face. I totally loves this story and your great writing. Eli was awesome with Mr. Porter and is that man retarded or what????? This post was a bit ‘heavy’, but very much necessary for the story, you’re a amazing writer. Post as soon as possible….PLEASE LOL.

Toribio, I simply adore this story!!! I cannot go into details for this chapter, there would be too much to say, but all I can say is that this chappy is one of the best you’ve written so far! Everyone is so much in character and there are so many emotions coming from the different interactions! You’re such a talented writer and the next post cannot come soon enough for me! I know I always say the same, but what you’ve done with Eli’s character is simply amazing! I love that kid! I’m also very happy that Tina was able to witness Bette’s standing up to her father, that’s the least she deserves, and that’s an understatement. And Kit’s so right: The first person Melvin should make amends to is Tina. I really believe that she took a lot of shit from him and it’s about time she’s treated like she deserves, not only with respect, but also love and gratitude for making Bette this happy! Oups, sorry about the rambling… BTW, I loved Kit’s argument to her father at the beginning of the chapter, that’s a hell of a universal argument! Well done, and many thanks!!! Ok, I’m done…
