With that Bette turned and walked over to her table. She kissed the top of Eli’s head before turning to kiss Tina.
Kit and Melvin were watching on the sidelines. Melvin was staring at Bette, a somber expression on his face. “Elizabeth looks very happy with them.”
Kit smiled as she saw her father’s face soften. “I know Bette didn’t lay it out for you as gently as you’d like but she’s still giving you a chance to be a part of her and her family’s life. It’s good that you’re excited about being in Eli’s life, but next time try to fight the urge to meddle in his upbringing.”
Melvin looked grumpy. “If I’m supposed to cultivate a relationship with him shouldn’t I be trying to engage and interact with him?”
Kit laughed at how clinical her father sounded sometimes. “Yeah you’ll need to spend time with him but that comes later. Your relationship with Eli isn’t going to be like your relationship with David. You’re not going to be raising another grandchild, you’re going to have to take on a more traditional grandfather role. It’s kind of like being an aunt.”
“So I’m going to be peripherally involved.”
Kit chuckled. “Yeah daddy. Our role is to love and support him. We get to do all the fun stuff, spoil him, and occasionally he might come to you for advice. Sometimes unsolicited advice is allowed as long as you don’t undermine his parents.”
Kit smiled when she saw her father nodding as he took in what his new role would be. “But first you’re going to have to make peace with Tina. You have a lot to apologize for. The way I see it Tina’s at the center of this situation if you get in good with her the other two won’t be far behind. Lucky for you Tina’s the most considerate person I know.” Kit looked back over at Bette and saw her sister getting ready to leave. Tina carrying the bag with their lunch in one hand the other was holding on to Bette well Bette’s other arm was around Eli.
Kit looked back at her father. “But daddy in order for this to work out you’re going to have to genuinely express what you really feel about Bette’s new family. They’ll know if you’re not being sincere. You have to whole-heartedly accept Bette and Tina’s relationship they won’t be satisfied with you tolerating their relationship and they shouldn’t have to. When you’re sure you can do that then go to them with your decision.”
Melvin nodded thoughtfully but he also appeared drained from the day’s events. He had a lot to consider but hopefully he also had a lot to look forward to if he made the right decision.

I was so happy to see you post…then I saw 6 pages I was like yeah! Melvin is coming around, I am glad Bette is not making it easy for him. He helped put a strain on their marriage all those years ago and he needs to own up to that. I am glad Bette is so protective of her family. Please post soon.

Yeah, Bette held her ground and again relayed the message that she was not going to tolerate his behavior towards Tina. Tina has finally become the equal to Bette in all aspects of Bette’s life. Loved how Eli went toe to toe with Melvin and won.
a very good chapter, i like the fact that Bette protect her family but Eli is such a charming boy and he will win the Melvin’s heart like he did with the others people. i really want to read about the openning and some love time i can’t wait for the next chapter!

The way you have developed Eli is absolutely wonderful, you hve made him such a great child and everyone, and I mean everyone loves him to pieces. Even old Melvin seems to like him. So happy that Bette had the gonads to stand up to her father and happy also that Kit gave him a bit of advice on that subject as well. Can hardly wait for the next episode in this story. LOVE, ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS STORY. Thanks.

Everytime I see a post from you, I get a big goofy smile on my face. I totally loves this story and your great writing. Eli was awesome with Mr. Porter and is that man retarded or what????? This post was a bit ‘heavy’, but very much necessary for the story, you’re a amazing writer. Post as soon as possible….PLEASE LOL.

Toribio, I simply adore this story!!! I cannot go into details for this chapter, there would be too much to say, but all I can say is that this chappy is one of the best you’ve written so far! Everyone is so much in character and there are so many emotions coming from the different interactions! You’re such a talented writer and the next post cannot come soon enough for me! I know I always say the same, but what you’ve done with Eli’s character is simply amazing! I love that kid! I’m also very happy that Tina was able to witness Bette’s standing up to her father, that’s the least she deserves, and that’s an understatement. And Kit’s so right: The first person Melvin should make amends to is Tina. I really believe that she took a lot of shit from him and it’s about time she’s treated like she deserves, not only with respect, but also love and gratitude for making Bette this happy! Oups, sorry about the rambling… BTW, I loved Kit’s argument to her father at the beginning of the chapter, that’s a hell of a universal argument! Well done, and many thanks!!! Ok, I’m done…
