    Tina and her mother.

    “Did we know the person you were with for that one year?” Sarah asks curiously.

    “Yes, you do know her. But I’m not going to tell you who she is, because she’s not out yet.” Tina replies.

    And after that relationship did you have more long term ones?” Sarah continues to ask.

    “One that lasted 4 months.. But I don’t want to talk about past relationships. If you all want to be in my life, then you have to make an effort. I’m not going to. I didn’t do the wrong here, you guys did.” Tina says looking at her family and then at Bette. She smiles.

    “I’m with Bette, and I will be with Bette for the rest of my life.” Tina says as she is interrupted by Sarah.

    “Yeah, you said yes finally?” She asks and smiles.

    “Yeah, she realized that she couldn’t live without me.” Bette replies. Tina put her arm around Bette’s waist, they look at each other smiling.

    “Can I see the rings? You must have rings right?” Sarah asks as she gets up and walks over to them.

    Tina reaches out her hand.

    “We wanted something simple and beautiful, something that symbolizes us and our relationship.” Tina says.

    “They are beautiful.” Sara says.

    Tina looks into Bette’s eyes. She leans in for a kiss, a sweet tender kiss.

    She didn’t care that her mother sat before them, watching.

    “So when is the big day?” Chris asks after a little awkward silence.

    “One year from now.” Tina says.

    “That long?” He asks.

    “Yeah. We don’t want to rush it, and besides we are both going to be busy with our work. So we chose one year, that way we can plan and organize it just the way we want it.” Tina replies. She looks at Bette one more time.

    “I think we should be going, we have an early flight tomorrow.” Tina says.

    “Tina, is there any chance I could talk to you alone for a few minutes before you leave?” Kathleen asks, looking pleadingly at Tina.

    “Yeah.” Tina replies.

    Bette, Chris and Sarah walk out into the hallway. Lauren is still upstairs with Jason.

    Kathleen got up, standing opposite Tina. Tina is looking at her mother, waiting for her to start.

    7. oh i forgot to say that Bettes mom is going to freak when she knows about the wedding plan and that Bette wants to share her money with Tina she will drop dead..lol..ok night

    10. That was overwhelmingly happy and sad. Her mother took a big step as did Tina. But now Tina can let go of some of the pain and hurt…she can release some if not most of her anger at her family for abandoning her. Loved this story..please continue on.

    17. Very intense chapter, Lauren. Even if – fortunately – everybody didn’t know such awful familial rejection, we are all able to deeply relate to.
      And I’m with others here : if the so narrow-minded father would never do any gesture, well, that would be his own burden and Tina is already surrounded enough with the rest of the family. Too bad for the last stone-hearted “Christian”.

      I also highly appreciated Tina’s way to always keep Bette next to her, making clear that both have to be accepted together or nothing.
