    Chapter 37

     

    Tina keeps staring at her mother, waiting for her to start talking. Kathleen looks like a lost puppy looking for shelter. Tina sees that and turns around and walks back into the living room. She let go of Bette’s hand. She walks over to the wall with all the family photos. After a few minutes, Bette comes up to her. She places her hand on Tina’s shoulder.

    “Baby, are you okay?” Bette asks in a low caring voice.

    Tina turns around and looks into Bette’s eyes with tears running down her cheeks.

    Bette moves her hand up to Tina’s face and gently wipes away the tears.

    “Talk to me, please.” Bette says holding Tina’s face in her hands.

    “I wanted to run and throw my arms around her, but then I remember why we’re here.” Tina says and starts to sob a little. “I love her. I never stopped even though she hurt me like no child should be hurt by their parents. I want to hug her, but at the same time I want to knock her down.” Tina admits.
    “That’s normal Tee. You should tell her that, tell her exactly how you feel. If you need space, I’m sure we can go somewhere else. Leave you two alone.” Bette suggests.

    “No, I don’t want you to leave, I don’t want anyone to leave. Sarah and Chris need to hear this too.” Tina says after a few moments.

    “Okay, I’ll be here

     

    Out in the hallway:

    “Mom, why did you come over?” Sarah asks seriously.

    “I I just wanted to see her, I needed to see her.” Kathleen replies.

    “We’ve hurt her enough, I don’t want to hurt her anymore. I have finally gotten my sister back. I’m not loosing her again.” Sarah says and looks at her mother.

    “Yes, mom, I agree with Sarah. This has gone on long enough. This whole thing is stupid. Who are we to say who she should be with?” Chris says raising his voice a little so Tina and Bette walks up to the hallway door. They listen to what Kathleen says.

    “I agree Chris, I’ve been stupid. I hate myself for turning my back on my daughter. I’ve regretted it every single day, but I was too stubborn to do something about it.” Kathleen says as her tears keep dripping.

    7. oh i forgot to say that Bettes mom is going to freak when she knows about the wedding plan and that Bette wants to share her money with Tina she will drop dead..lol..ok night

    10. That was overwhelmingly happy and sad. Her mother took a big step as did Tina. But now Tina can let go of some of the pain and hurt…she can release some if not most of her anger at her family for abandoning her. Loved this story..please continue on.

    17. Very intense chapter, Lauren. Even if – fortunately – everybody didn’t know such awful familial rejection, we are all able to deeply relate to.
      And I’m with others here : if the so narrow-minded father would never do any gesture, well, that would be his own burden and Tina is already surrounded enough with the rest of the family. Too bad for the last stone-hearted “Christian”.

      I also highly appreciated Tina’s way to always keep Bette next to her, making clear that both have to be accepted together or nothing.
