Chapter 18
Later that night:
They ate lunch and dinner at the club, and were joined by Lara. Later they went home.
Bette drove down into the garage and parked the car. Tina sat silent the whole trip home.
Tina, are you okay? Bette asks softly.
If you dont mind, I would like to be alone tonight. Tina says looking down at her hands.
Ohokay. Bette replies a little confused and surprised, but she could understand, because it has been a emotional day for Tina, with all the information from Lara and all. It brought up a lot of hidden memories.
They get out of the car and walk over to the elevator. Bette press nr. 2.
Bette walks Tina to her door.
Will I see you tomorrow? Bette asks looking at Tina with a sad but caring look.
Yeah. Tina says and smiles a little. Good night. Tina says and kiss Bette on her cheek.
Goodnight. Bette replies a little surprised. Tina seemed like a different person.
Tina locked herself in and Bette went up to her apartment.
Just as Tina closes the door, she breaks down crying. All those hidden memories, how her parents and siblings have hurt her, even if she push the feelings aside and back, it still become visible from time to time and when that happen, she needs to be alone. At least that is what she thinks.
Bette went into her kitchen and made some coffee. It was only 5 minutes after 9, so she wasnt tired yet. She decided to catch up on her reading. She started a book a long time ago, but she never got the time to finish it. Ill finish it now. She thinks to herself. It was Swans way by Marcel Proust. She sits down with her coffee and her book and begins reading.
After half an hour, she fell asleep.
Downstairs at Tinas:
She had cried some more, then she had taken out the family photos she had taken from her parents house the day she left. It was a photo with both her parents and her two siblings and off course Tina. And then there was a photo of just the kids, Tina, Sarah and Chris. And the last one was of her parents. The family photo was taken only a couple of months before Tina left. Their parents wanted a last family photo, before all the children moved out. And then only a couple of months later Tina came out to her parents. It was like the picture didnt exist anymore. She started to cry again when she looked at it. She missed her family. She had no one, not no one, she had Alice and Shane and off course Bette, but the safety of a family around, she didnt have that and she missed it.
