“Ashley, I…I’m sorry for everything.” Ashley genuinely returned the embrace, finally letting the tears flow freely.
Paula pulled back releasing the two. She took hold of Spencer’s right hand and Ashley’s left. She cupped their hands together and let go as the two girls held on to one another. The hatred that she felt was replaced with endearment and kindness.
“I know you make her happy and I’m sorry for ever keeping you apart.” Paula then glanced at a smiling Kasey.
“Oh my, I must look like a wreck.” The older Carlin laughed wiping away her tears. “Kasey, I’ll be back soon to check on you.” Kasey gave her a feeble thumbs up as Paula gathered the forms and left the room.
“What just happened?” Aiden was the first to speak. Dumfounded he eyed the three girls hoping for an answer. Instead Spencer rushed to Kasey’s side and hugged her tightly. Ashley quickly followed suit.
The delicate girl smiled her; her lips dry and face pale. She soon felt the tears soak through her gown as the girls sobbed in her arms. “Thank you.” The blonde buried her face deeper into Kasey’s shoulder. “Thank you so much.” She whispered knowing somehow Kasey had changed her mother’s mind about Ashley.
After a brief moment of silence Kyla entered the room closely followed by Madison and Pete. Kyla gently held Kasey’s hand in reassurance, not so much for her girlfriend but more for herself.
The medicine was beginning to take its toll as Kasey’s chest rose and fell in cadence with the machines around her. Reality set in. ‘My chances are slim. I may not be back. Memorize the faces, this may be then end.’ Kasey had no tears left to shed. Instead she let her eyes rest on each face momentarily before moving on to the next.
Seconds later Paula reentered the room along with two nurses. “It’s time.” She spoke solemnly.
Spencer, Ashley, and Madison took turns hugging the young girl. None of them were sure if they’d ever see her again. Fear and silent prayers had now taken over the room.
Kyla sobbed quietly yet forced a smile as she softly pecked Kasey on the lips. “I’ll be waiting…” She whispered in her ear so no one else could hear. This caused the young girl to smile.

holy shit… i was so freaking close to crying… if i were at home instead of work i would have been… BEST CHAPTER!!! and im so happy u didnt kill her, i would have been pissed… loved the story, i would love for u to continue it, but if not, i understand..

Wow, my heart was broken and mended in one event filled chapter. Miracles happen everyday and I’m thankful for them. Kasey lives, Paula forgives, Spencer & Ashley love freely without judgement, Aiden’s prayers were answered, Kyla & Kasey are allowed to share their love without the the shadow of death looming over them & we your readers can breathe a sigh of relief for such a happy ending. Thank-you, for such a beautiful, heartrending story that captured the essence of love and hope. P.S. I would like to see an annual camping trip…perhaps another chapter would be great.
