    “Hi Spence.” Ashley’s voice was weak and she didn’t have a clue about where this conversation was headed. After a couple of seconds, blue eyes met brown, but as quick as they came, they returned to the papers in front of her.

     

    “Hey Ash. How are you?”

     

    Ashley opened her mouth to apologize for her actions during the last time they saw each other, but the blonde was quick to interrupt.

     

    “The doctor is already ready for you, so you can go right in.” Oh, so they were going to play the “pretend it didn’t happen” game. Just great. Ashley gave her one last wary glance before moving towards the office.

     

    An hour later, Ashley reemerged. She looked over at Spencer cautiously. The girl appeared to be busy working so Ashley headed for the exit.

     

    “Ash!” The brunette stopped and spun around.

     

    “You don’t need to apologize. It’s fine.” Ashley was still confused and Spencer seemed to notice. “Really. Nothing happened and I am the one who should apologize. I just disappeared on you. I’m sorry. I really want to be your friend though.”

     

    Spencer gave her a wishful smile, and Ashley could on grin widely in reply. She stopped all forward progress and headed back over to the blonde. The two then proceeded to have a friendly, and highly enjoyable conversation. After a while, Ashley felt her stomach growl.

     

    “So hey, would you like to go get some lunch?”

     

    Spencer bit her lip and then gave the brunette and apologetic look.

     

    “Sorry. I would love to. Really. But I’m having lunch with my mother.” Ashley’s good mood dropped a notch, but she tried no to let it show.

     

    “That’s fine. Don’t worry about it, I understand.” Her voice gave her up anyway. There was a moment of silence before Spencer spoke again.

     

    “Look, I know you usually don’t come in on Fridays, but there is a great burger place up the street if you want to eat with me.” Ashley felt her heart skip a beat in excitement.

     

    “I’ll be here.” She couldn’t help but throw in a seductive smile.

     

    Suddenly, the front door opened, and a tall blonde woman stepped in. Her eyes were like ice. A black-haired guy, who appeared to be much younger than her, although an adult nonetheless, hovered behind the woman. Ashley watched as Spencer smiled at the newcomer.

     

    “Mom!” Something about the excitement in Spencer’s voice made Ashley’s insides melt. However, she suddenly got worried when the blonde’s face turned into an expression of anger. Apparently she had just noticed the man behind her mother.

     

    “You alright Spence? Who is that guy?” Ashley’s concerned whisper went unheard to everyone but the girl next to her.

     

    Spencer just stood there for a few moments before angrily replying, “He’s my ex-boyfriend.”

    2. Oh for the love of all that is green and leafy. Imagine my amazement and sheer joy at noticing two of my favorite fic’s updated in a row. First you, then complicated. But enough of that. I hate Ashley’s mom, and you’ve written her so well that I can’t possibly but hate her more. You make my heart ache for Ash and make me want SPencer to wrap the little ‘un up in her arms and make it all ok. You write so well that I’m actually gunning for these guys. Sheesh. Love your work. LOVE YOUR WORK!

    4. Nice to get a little insight into what’s happening between Ash and her mother. I really like how Ash melted when Spence greeted Paula and um, that better not be Aiden :( eeek!
