         The night was calm and still. The apartment was silent except for the few chirping crickets that were hidden deep within the shadows. Ashley lay on her bed, wide awake, reminiscing  over the day’s events.

     

    After that inexpressible moment came crashing down, Spencer had disappeared before Ashley could process a single thought. Ashley stood there, alone and bewildered, on the beach for what seemed like an eternity. After realizing that the blonde would most likely not be coming back, she decided to head home. Skipping work, and all other matters on her to-do list, Ashley opened her apartment door, heavily dropped her bags, and crashed onto her bed the instant she found it.

     

         Here the brunette remained for the rest of the night. She was unable to sleep, for unwillingly, every time she closed her eyes, images of blue eyes and blonde hair would emerge, as if they were a never ending movie. No other person had ever been able to make Ashley’s head hurt and heart ache all in one emotion. Spencer truly confused her, and she couldn’t help but wonder if there was more to her than the blonde was allowing to show. Finally, at an unrecognizable hour, sleep washed over tired brown eyes.

     

         The next few days were uneventful. Ashley spent most of her time at work, attempting to clear her thoughts of recent events. She loved the studio. It was the only place she truly felt safe. The dim lights and worn carpets gave her a sense of warmth and comfort. Inside those walls she felt as if she were in sanctuary. The studio wasn’t that big, and the company that Ashley worked for was a small label, but it was a record company nonetheless. Besides, Ashley loved the people who owned it. The person who ran the business was a middle-aged man who grew up around music, and his wife, a kind, intelligent woman, took care of the paperwork and legal issues. The studio was a joint effort and this couple, the Jordan’s, made every artist feel like family. The two especially took care of Ashley, and she couldn’t be more grateful. According to Mr. Jordan, Ashley was welcome at any hour and as long as she continued to work for them, she could record in the studio for free. It was people like this that helped the brunette continue to believe that there was still some good in the world.

I hate Ashley’s mom, and you’ve written her so well that I can’t possibly but hate her more. You make my heart ache for Ash and make me want SPencer to wrap the little ‘un up in her arms and make it all ok. You write so well that I’m actually gunning for these guys. Sheesh. Love your work. LOVE YOUR WORK!

    4. Nice to get a little insight into what’s happening between Ash and her mother. I really like how Ash melted when Spence greeted Paula and um, that better not be Aiden :( eeek!
