Not The Type 2: Established – (Chapter: Chapter 4)
“Maybe it’s not her.” I frown at that.
“What do you mean?”
“Maybe you’re doing something Spencer doesn’t like.”
“Like what?”
“I don’t know, loser.” She bumps my shoulder with hers. “The kids are going to be here, so this gives you guys the perfect time to talk, yell, whatever.” I nod and we sit in silence.
“Question?” I turn to look at Brooke. “Who invited you guys to dinner? Spencer?”
“Um no. This is not her house to be inviting people over.” I roll my eyes. “Jordan and I was hanging out today and decided that we was going to eat at you guys place.” Oh but they can invite themselves to my house. “But then when we talked to Taylor and she mentioned you guys were going to be coming here. So we called up Mr. Carlin and got ourselves an invite.” She beams.
“Neither of you thought about going out to eat or something?”
“Why eat out, when you can eat in for free?” She laughs and jumps up when the front door opens.
“What are you guys up to?” Spencer closes the front door behind her.
“Ash was trying crying about how you’re giving her shit.” Brooke shrugs. “She would like you to tell her what she did.”
“Seriously Ash?” Spencer moves to stand in front of me.
“Yeah,” I stand up. “In so many words.” I glare at my sister.
“Just trying to help you out, big sis.” She grins and says goodnight.
“You ready?” I ask Spencer once the house door shuts behind Brooke.
“Sure.” She says quietly and walks passed me.
So my plan to go home and talk to my wife about what’s bothering her went to shit when I fell asleep on the way home. Spencer was driving and I was super tired. I ended up asleep with my head against the window. When we got in the house, I sat on the couch, and before I realized it I was asleep again.
Now it’s like ten in the morning and I find myself alone in our bed. I’m sure me falling asleep pissed her off more.
“No, baby mama’s still sleep.” I find Spencer sitting at the kitchen table, with the phone pressed against her face. “Mommy misses you.” She hasn’t noticed me in the doorway yet. I’m surprised she hasn’t gone to get the kids yet. We rarely let the girls stay over other people’s house. If we do its no more than a night.
