Not The Type 2: Established – (Chapter: Chapter 4)

“Ash?” I look up when my wife walks into the kitchen. I’m sitting at the kitchen table, a stack of work papers spread out in front of me.

    “Yeah?”

“We’re going to the grocery store…” She sits in the chair across from me. I can hear Paris running around looking for her shoes.

“Can you grab me some Vanilla Wafers?” I get excited, “Oh and some…”

“No,” She smiles and pulls the pen from my hand. “You’re coming too.”

“I have a lot of work to do. I think you can manage a trip to the grocery store without me.” I sigh and rest my face in my hands.

“Come on, you’ve been doing stuff for work all day.” She rolls her eyes. “I have the whole weekend off work. I want to spend it with you and the kids. You’re the boss. You can do this stuff later.”

“Babe, I don’t…” Spencer ignores me and stands up.

“I’m a go help Paris find her shoe, then we can leave.”

“Spencer.” I stand. She turns around at the kitchen entrance. “I’m not going to the store.”

“Seriously Ash, I’m just asking you to take a break to go to the store with your family.”

“I know, but…” I stop talking when I see her roll her eyes. She walks back over to me and pushes the pen into my chest.

“Whatever.” She goes to walk away but I grab the back of her jean pocket.

“Mommy! Help find shoe!” Spencer tries to move but I pull on her pocket again.

“Don’t rip my jeans.” She whines.

“Come here,” I snake my arms around her waist and press my front to her back.

    “Mommy!”

“Look by the front door!” I yell back. I hear her little feet hit the ground.

“Stop running in the house!” Spencer yells while trying to push my hands away.

“We’ll spend some time together when you get back.” I whisper in her ear and kiss it. When she doesn’t respond I turn her head so she is looking at me. “Don’t act like that.” I lean in and press my lips to hers. At first she doesn’t respond, then after a second she kisses me back.

“You’re still a jackass.” She breaks the kiss and walk away.
