That’s What Friends Are For [Chapter Three]

    Chapter Three Part One:

“I’m glad you came…” Henry began, sliding his hands across the surface of the table to grab Tina’s. She immediately flinched and attempted to pull away, but he wouldn’t allow it. “I need you, Tina.”

Her eyes lowered as he sought out eye contact. She hated looking him in the eye. She hated knowing what he’d done, even if she was involved somewhat. Any knowledge of what to say had totally gone out of the window, as she sat there in silence.

“Aren’t you going to say anything?”

    “What can I say, Henry?”

He jerked his hands back and crossed them over his chest. Henry had no idea what he wanted, apart from the fact that he wanted her. What did he want her to say? He had no idea.

“How have you been anyway? Are you still at work?”

Small conversation was appropriate, was it not? Tina seemed happy with the change of subject as she sighed contently and her body visibly relaxed.

“Of course I still work. I have to pay rent, don’t I?”

Henry bit down on his lower lip and looked away. With a small roll of her eyes, Tina leant across the table and initiated contact when she grabbed his hands, even though it made her feel incredibly uncomfortable.

“Henry, I’ve told you many times that I could not stand living in our house any longer. It was difficult. Every time I went in our bedroom, I could see it… in my head…” Tina drew her hands back and hurriedly wiped at the tears forming in her eyes. “I didn’t like that at all. I just needed to get away.”

“I understand, Tina.” Henry said slowly, with a small nod of his head. “I am glad that you have your own place that you can feel safe in.”

As Tina went to thank him, he quickly interrupted.

“And I’m sorry about the last time you were here. None of this is your fault, ok? That bastard shouldn’t have had his hands on you. You’re just an innocent victim in all of this. So don’t ever let me convince you that it is your fault – you got me?”
