It was good to be home. Spencer collapsed immediately in her favorite chair, weary from hours of sitting cramped and still high above the ground. Ashley followed suit, making herself comfortable in Spencer’s lap.
“I can’t believe you have to work tomorrow,” Ashley said, her eyes closed but her hands playing with a strand of Spencer’s hair.
“I know…I know. But with the wedding and this past week, I can’t afford to take off any longer. Besides, as much as I hate to admit it, I really miss my kids.”
“I bet they miss you too, although I loved having unsuspecting substitute teachers at that age…gave them absolute hell.”
Spencer nodded and smiled, “Of course.”
“That was probably the last time I actually enjoyed school.”
“Oh, come on. You like, attacked college, ok? Let’s not forget about grad school…”
“Yeah, but I didn’t enjoy it. I mean, I did all that because I didn’t have anything else. I didn’t have a real family, I didn’t have you anymore, I wasn’t really dating anyone…there was nothing else to focus on so I threw myself into college.”
“And now here you are with me—unemployed and married,” Spencer laughed.
“God…where has the time gone? Speaking of employment, I have to call Frank back about that gig this weekend.”
“Does that mean you’re leaving my lap?”
“Yeah…”
”Then I don’t approve.”
Ashley leaned in, kissing Spencer lightly, “I have to…it’s a big show.”
“Fine, but when you’re done my lap wants you back.”
“It’s a deal.”
Ashley jumped up, afraid that if she didn’t move immediately she’d stay right there in that chair with Spencer forever and while the chair might be in question, the forever never was.
She checked the loft to make sure everything was just as they had left it. It wouldn’t be the first time she would have had to fire a maid for getting a little too familiar with her possessions. Once she saw that everything was in its proper place, she collapsed on the bed she would soon share with Spencer and dialed Frank’s number.
“Hello?”
“Hey, Frank, it’s me…Ashley Davies.”
“Ah, Ashley! You’re back?”
“Just got in a little while ago, but I wanted to call you as soon as possible.”
“Awesome, well the show is going to be great from what I can tell. We’ve got six acts so far and if you’re cool with it, we’ve got you too.”

*screams in an inaudible pitch* omg omg omg omg omg….ok…ive followed this story the entire time you’ve been writing it, and basically…IT NEEDS TO BE PUBLISHED…something damnit…lol you’re too good of a writer…honestly the story was absolutely amazing. Spence and Ash=perfection…especially when you’re the writer ;)PLZ I beg of you to write more….
You had me scared shitless there for a second. I thought perhaps you’d end it with Spencer saying, “I want a divorce!” Or something..lol Ahhhh, anyway, you did an amazing job. I loved reading every single one of your updates and if you ever return with another story you definitely have a loyal fan right here. =P
That was such a perfect ending. I don’t think it could have been any better. You had me worried for a minute there with Ashley’s hesitation due to her record contract but you definitely made up for it. I’m so going to miss this story. I think I’ll go read the whole thing again from the start. :)
