White Lightning – (Chapter: She’s not. I’m not. Dammit.)

Kyla stared at Ashley. There was a fire in the younger girl’s eyes that her older sister had only seen once or twice. Even then, it hadn’t been as intense as it was now. Kyla put her hands on her hips and jutted her chin out expectantly at Ashley but she was lost for words. A thin sheet of sweat broke out on her forehead and her breathing started to get more erratic.

“Ashley I’m going to be rational about this and I’m going to be as nice as possible,” Kyla began pointing a finger in her face. Somehow Ashley suspected that she wasn’t going to be rational or nice.

“Wait, I can explain,” Ashley interjected scrambling for any kind of excuse possible.

“No just shh!” Kyla growled. Her voice was growing louder and it sent chills down the back of Ashley’s spine.

    “No wait I was just-”

    “JUST NOTHING!”

“Exactly. I was um.. cleaning! You know the glass panels looked a little cloudy, so I was in there and I guess the fumes got to me and I passed out,” Ashley explained. The lie was good, she almost believed herself. Kyla however was a different story.

“Lying piece of crap! Answer my question. What the HELL were you doing in the time machine?! What the HELL were you thinking doing whatever it was you were doing ALONE AND where did you get those god awful shoes?!” Kyla was panting by now, out of breath and very red in the face. Ashley glanced down at her feet, smiling at the old beat up tennis shoes that had made the journey with her. Spencer’s face flashed into her mind for a moment and she was lost in the ocean of her eyes.

“The shoes are not awful. They are retro,” Ashley quipped. Kyla rolled her eyes and poked Ashley right in the middle of the forehead.

    1. I really liked this chapter. The Ashley and Kyla banter is funny. I really want to figure out why Spencer gets stabbed and how Ashley saves her! PMS!

    3. Umm…kind of a late reply but…I really really love how you write out the interaction between Kyla and Ashley…you are probably the best Kyla writer on this site. I’m all for Ashley and Spencer but I love when people delve out into other characters…you are one of two people who do it really well. Just all around great writing here, i’m a little hooked and i’m kinda glad I don’t have to wait for updates!
